Description

SUMMARY Welding of various pre-fitted assemblies for Columbia-class submarines, Virginia-class submarines, Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carriers, and associated fixtures. Work is performed in accordance with NAVSEA and/or AWS D1.1 specifications. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.  

  • Weld proficiently in all positions with minimal defects. 
  • Determine the correct equipment to use and method based on the requirements. 
  • Basic welding machine setup and troubleshooting. 
  • Ability to read and interpret welding symbols. 
  • Basic knowledge of grinding, gouging, and weld repair. 
  • Ability to always stay focused and on-task. 
  • Complete jobs within budget and timeline. 
  • Accept constructive criticism, apply lessons learned, and consistently show improvement in all areas. 
  • Familiar and complies with all safety requirements and protocols for working in a hazardous environment. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 


Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily/meeting expectations. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Successful completion of 7 weld tests: FCAW (2G, 3G, and 4G); GWAW-Pulsed (2G, 3G, and 4G); GMAW-Spray (2G). 
  • Successful completion of Pegasus Welder Workmanship Training (WWT). 
  • Successful completion of Pegasus Welder I Performance Qualification Standards within 90 days of hire.  

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED. Successful completion of an accredited trade school welding program or equivalent; or 2-years demonstrated practical AWS D1.1 welding experience; or a comparable combination of education and experience. 


LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, quality manuals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management and customer’s top management. 


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts and operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis, etc. 


REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. 


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Welding Certification from an accredited welding training program or technical program preferred.
