  • The position requires effective communication with the parts department and service advisors, as well as the ability to diagnose malfunctions and perform necessary repairs.
  • Technicians must also participate in training programs, supervise apprentice technicians, and maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Summary

Repairs and maintainsdiesel and gasoline engine industrialtrucks according to dealership and factory specifications.


Essential Duties
  • Performs work as outlinedon repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership andfactory standards.
  • Diagnoses cause of any malfunction and performs repair.
  • Communicates with parts department to obtain needed parts.
  • Saves and tags parts ofthe job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
  • Examines assigned vehicleto determine if further safety orservice work is required or recommended.
  • Communicates with service advisor/dispatcherimmediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or ifrepairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
  • Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
  • Road tests vehicles when required.
  • Participates in manufacturer-sponsoredtraining programs, schools, and events.
  • Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
  • Supervises work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.
  • Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Ensures that vehicle iskept clean. Notifies service advisor/dispatcher immediately of anything thathas happened to change the appearanceor condition of the vehicle.
  • Keeps shop area neat and clean.
  • Maintains and isaccountable for all dealership-ownedtools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same conditionas when they were received.
  • Understands, keeps abreastof and complies with federal, stateand local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Knowetc.
  • Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
  • Reports any safety issues immediately to management.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

  • Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent fromtwo-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of educationand experience.
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-yearcollege or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two to four years related experience and/ortraining; or equivalent combinationof education and experience.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability toeffectively present information in one-on-oneand small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to read andinterpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenanceinstructions and procedure manuals. Ability to writeroutine reports and correspondence. Ability to speakeffectively before groups ofcustomers or employees of organization.

MathematicalSkills

  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with lO's and lOO's.Ability to perform these operationsusing units of American money andweight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers,common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw andinterpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to calculatefigures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions,percentages, area, circumference andvolume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved
