About Large Power Systems Division:

The Large Power Systems Division (LPSD) is part of Caterpillar’s Power & Energy segment. Through this global organization, Caterpillar designs and manufactures large  diesel and natural gas engines, powertrains and key engine systems. LPSD products and solutions support customers across power generation, industrial, marine, oil & gas, rail, services and Cat® machine applications worldwide. 

LPSD teams work across regions and functions to deliver safe, reliable and compliant solutions that help solve our customers’ toughest challenges.   

Role Definition:

Join Caterpillar's Large Power Systems Division (LPSD) as an Engineering Project Team Leader, leading the planning, coordination, and execution of New Product Introduction (NPI) initiatives for the 3500-marine engine platform. This role will focus on commercial and Defense programs and future product development efforts, driving projects from concept through production implementation.

The Engineering Project Team Leader will lead complex, cross-functional engineering programs, partnering with teams across Component Engineering, Performance Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Purchasing, and Customer-Facing teams to deliver products that meet customer and business objectives. Success in this role requires strong project leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to influence and collaborate across multiple functions, organizations, and global stakeholders. 

What You Will Do:

  • Lead planning, coordination, and execution of several 3500 marine commercial and Defense NPI programs and future platform development initiatives.
  • Manage multiple complex engineering projects involving cross-functional teams, organizations, suppliers, and global stakeholders.
  • Drive program execution by managing timelines, budgets, risks, deliverables, and key performance metrics.
  • Provide leadership and direction throughout the product development lifecycle, from requirements definition through validation and market launch. 
  • Collaborate with product strategy, engineering, manufacturing, quality, validation, purchasing, and supply chain teams to ensure successful program outcomes. 
  • Facilitate resolution of technical, operational, and program-related challenges through structured problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Communicate project status, milestones, risks, and mitigation plans to leadership and key stakeholders including design review and gateways.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability, and technical excellence across the project team.

What You Will Have:

  • Technical Excellence: Extensive knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
  • Product Design and Development: Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.
  • Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.
  • Influencing Through Expertise: Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to use these to deepen own expertise and impact or challenge decisions within and outside own organization.
  • Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing or product management environment.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum OR demonstrated progressive experience in directly related roles.

What Will Put You Ahead (Desired Skills):

  • Component design, engine performance and/or engine platform experience.
  • CPI and NPI project leadership experience.
  • Diesel or Gas engine system knowledge
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written, complemented by the ability to craft and deliver technical presentations.
  • Ability to collect and efficiently organize detailed information
  • The ability to work or lead multiple projects simultaneously and to make sound priority decisions

 

 

Summary Pay Range:

$128,470.00 - $192,710.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
