We are on our way to achieving many industry firsts.  This demands an ambitious team that revels in leaning into challenges, getting hands on, and working together.  Does this sound like you?  EOI Space is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic spacecraft development team, playing a key role in the design, analysis, integration, assembly, and testing of spacecraft structural systems. This position is critical in ensuring that spacecraft components meet the highest standards of integrity, reliability, and performance required in the harsh environment of space.

Working cross-functionally with multidisciplinary teams, the Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for everything from structural/thermal-aware design, materials selection, mechanical integration, and assembly support to verification and validation of spacecraft mechanical subsystems.

What you will do:

  • Drive the design and optimization of spacecraft structures, mechanisms, and components by utilizing computer-aided design (CAD) software and finite element analysis (FEA) tools to model and simulate structural behavior under various loading conditions and environmental factors
  • Package vehicle components effectively by factoring in their respective needs for heat dissipation, fields of view, and harnessing
  • Evaluate design alternatives and select optimal solutions for mechanical subsystems by conducting feasibility studies and trade-off analyses
  • Create robust documentation by developing and maintaining mechanical interface control documents for spacecraft bus-level components
  • Verify the integrity, reliability, and safety of mechanical designs by performing structural analysis and simulations and supporting hardware through test campaigns
  • Create effective assembly and manufacturing drawings by applying GD&T
  • Support the manufacturing and assembly processes hands-on by providing guidance and troubleshooting assistance at all stages of integration
  • Ensure the timely delivery of high-quality mechanical components and subsystems by collaborating with suppliers and external partners through the entire part lifecycle
  • Communicate design concepts, analysis results, and test findings to internal stakeholders, external partners, and regulatory authorities by preparing thorough technical documentation, reports, and presentations

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering discipline
  • 5+ years of applicable mechanical engineering experience with 3+ of those years focused on spacecraft/satellite applications
  • Deep understanding of mechanical first principles
  • Hands on experience with flight hardware assembly
  • Familiarity with spacecraft operational and survival environments (vibe, thermal, etc.)
  • Proficient with SolidWorks or similar CAD and FEA tools
  • Experience generating engineering drawings to the Y14.5-2009 standard
  • Familiar with engineering best practices when it comes to aerospace mechanical/structural design and material selection
  • Experience with rapid prototyping/testing to confirm proof-of-concept designs
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-discipline team and provide technical guidance with minimal oversight
