TheĀ PrincipalĀ Software EngineerĀ acts as a software architect for theĀ AC&MĀ R&D organization andĀ theĀ development lead for patient monitors used in surgical environments.  They will collaborate with cross-functional resources and lead junior software developers to revise the product architecture to implement new features and deliver robust product updates to the market.  They will be accountable for the software quality of the product and embrace the Medtronic Mission every day to make a positive difference in the lives of our patients and caregivers.  This individual is expected to be hands-on and willing to heavily engage in design and development activities throughout the product lifecycle.Ā

Responsibilities:Ā 

  • Act as development lead for patient monitors typically used in surgical environmentsĀ 

  • Create andĀ maintainĀ product technical documentationĀ 

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior software developersĀ 

  • Organize day-to-day activities of the software developers on the product team andĀ participateĀ inĀ standupsĀ 

  • Collaborate with R&D resourcesĀ locatedĀ in Hyderabad, IndiaĀ 

  • Participate in triage of product issues to understand the risk andĀ impactĀ 

  • Answer technical questions on product behavior for internal and external stakeholdersĀ 

  • Collaborate with product owner, business analyst, and test lead to ensure alignmentĀ 

  • Work with OS build engineer to ensure embedded operating system is configured and hardened appropriatelyĀ 

  • Collaborate with product securityĀ engineerĀ on secure design, threatĀ modelingĀ and security deliverablesĀ 

  • Provide estimates of level of effort for issues and new featuresĀ 

  • Collaborate with team to analyze vulnerabilitiesĀ identifiedĀ by penetration testing andĀ SBOMĀ analysisĀ 

  • Set up and conduct product demos for stakeholdersĀ 

  • Responsibilities may include theĀ followingĀ and other duties may be assigned.Ā 

  • Designs, develops, tests, debugs and implements operating systems components, softwareĀ toolsĀ and utilities.Ā 

  • DeterminesĀ systems software design requirements.Ā 

  • Ensures that system improvements are successfully implemented andĀ monitoredĀ to increase efficiency.Ā 

  • Generates systems software engineering policies,Ā standardsĀ and procedures.Ā 

  • May work across a variety of software lifecycle activities asĀ determinedĀ by program needs.Ā

Must Have:Ā MinimumĀ Requirements:Ā 

Bachelor’s Degree in EngineeringĀ or technically relatedĀ andĀ 7+ years of software development experience Or,Ā Master's Degree in EngineeringĀ or technically related andĀ 5+ years of software development experienceĀ OR PhD with 3 years of software development experienceĀ 

Ā 

Specialized Skills or Experience:Ā 

  • Experience with acting as a software architect and software development leadĀ 

  • Experience with building desktop applications in C#, .NET, andĀ UI frameworks such asĀ WPFĀ 

  • Experience with kiosk mode applications and system hardeningĀ 

  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environmentĀ 

  • Experience with applying AgileĀ methodologyĀ to software developmentĀ 

  • Ability to communicate and align with Test, Regulatory, Quality, and other cross functions.Ā 

  • Superb written and oral communication skillsĀ 

  • Experience communicating with external stakeholders, such as auditors and customersĀ 

  • Experience with SAST tools such as SonarQubeĀ 

  • Experience with memory and performance profilingĀ 

Ā 

Nice to Have:Ā 

  • Knowledge of medical device security and product development standardsĀ 

  • Experience with embedded medical devicesĀ

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$152,800.00 - $229,200.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
