Job DetailsJob Location: Lafayette Steel and Aluminum of Lafayette - Lafayette, IN 47904Job Category: EngineeringPrincipal Objective of Position:                                                                                                      The Manufacturing Engineer develops and implements optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards; recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods and controls; coordinates manufacturing launch for new or revised products.   Essential Functions:                                                                                                                         The following reflects management’s definition of essential functions for this job but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned.  Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time due to reasonable accommodation or other reasons. Carries out process improvement, problem resolution, project management and employee training. Improves manufacturing processes and methods for cost-reduction, quality improvement and efficiency. Performs research, design and development of manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods and production equipment. Prepares and maintains detailed layouts of buildings and equipment Coordinates the manufacturing launch of new/revised products including establishing goals, training team members and evaluating results. Designs, develops and tests and/or sources and cost-justifies various tools, machinery and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods Performs product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency. Represents manufacturing on cross-functional teams. Responsible for the development of engineering masters/manufacturing instructions using manufacturing engineering practices. Prepare quotations for labor, tooling and equipment to support the business unit requirements. Participate in concurrent engineering design reviews. Evaluate and approve drawings, routings/MI’s, specs and other documents. Design and procure tools/equipment. Write appropriation requests. Evaluate and solve production problems. Train assemblers or conduct training to introduce new processes. Prepare/manufacture prototypes as required utilizing the principals of concurrent engineering. Education and Experience Required:                                                                                            Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, or related field Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:                                                                                   Background in AM TPM and lean manufacturing. Excellent math skills. Good computer skills including Outlook, Word and Excel, prefer experience with Dynamics AX. Must have the ability to effectively communicate by written and verbal. Ability to work in a team environment or independently with little or no supervision. Use of good judgment and decision making skills. Ability to multitask. Must be able to manage time. Must have adaptability/flexibility. Accuracy with a strong attention to detail. Qualifications  Preferred Qualifications:                                                                                                                  Minimum of five years’ experience in manufacturing. Experience working with aluminum, and with bending, stamping, forming and punching metals.
