I. SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Plans, implements, and coordinates safety programs, requiring application of engineering principles and technology, to prevent or correct unsafe working conditions

 

II. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Investigates industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventive measures
  • Manages job-related injury cases
  • Tracks, maintains and reports regulatory safety statistics
  • Report or reviews findings from accident investigations, facilities inspections, or environmental testing
  • Maintains and applies knowledge of current policies, regulations, and industrial processes
  • Inspects facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance
  • Conducts or coordinates worker training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment
  • Interviews clients and employees to obtain information about work environments and workplace incidents
  • Reviews plans and specifications for construction of new machinery or equipment to determine if all safety requirements have been met
  • Compiles, analyzes, and interprets statistical data related to occupational illnesses and accidents
  • Recommends process and product safety features which will reduce employees' exposure to chemical, physical, and biological work hazards
  • Installs safety devices on machinery, or direct device installation
  • Maintains liaisons with outside organizations, such as fire departments, mutual aid societies, and rescue teams, to facilitate emergency responses
  • Instructs employees in the requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health Act.

 

III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 10+ years of safety experience in industrial construction, engineering, or heavy industry
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred but not required
  • Minimum of 3 years in a safety leadership or management role
  • Certified First Aid
  • Hazardous Materials Technician Training
  • Hazard Communication Certified
  • Available for short-term travel

 

IV. REPORTING REQUIREMENTS:

Reports to Director of Quality and Safety

V. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work in protective clothing which may elevate body temperatures for periods of time
