Job Description

**This is a full time position at 40 hours a week located at Northwestern Medicine Catherine Gratz Griffin Lake Forest Hospital. The schedule is Monday to Friday, 2:30p to 11p. Back up call rotation and holiday rotation required. **

The Technical Coordinator Diagnostic Imaging reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

 Under the direction of the Radiology Manager and in collaboration with the Medical Director of the section, the Technical Coordinator has the responsibility and accountability for ensuring the technical competence of the staff and for the development and implementation of all clinical protocols. This position facilitates the operational activities related to quality patient care and overall department function. In addition to performing all the duties of the staff radiographer, the Technical Coordinator assumes a lead role in daily operations, equipment performance and takes on responsibilities as assigned by the Manager.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

  • Designs and coordinates orientation programs for the technical and assistant
  • personnel.
  • Trains technical staff in applying clinical protocols and techniques.
  • Develops training programs to apply evolving radiology techniques.
  • Provides and coordinates technical in-service education programs to develop staff
  • technically, educationally, and professionally.
  • Provides technical assessment of job performance for employee performance
  • appraisals.
  • Assists in the development of departmental and institutional policies and procedures
  • in relation to technical standards and compliance.
  • Coordinates/communicates equipment service and preventative maintenance
  • schedule/QM program. Collaborates with physicists to determine corrective action if
  • needed.
  • Participates in monthly staff meetings
  • Develops rapport with Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) to ensure compliance with all
  • regulatory agencies and radiation safety standards, where applicable.
  • Participates in new product review and evaluation. Coordinates supply ordering
  • process with staff.
  • Performs other duties as it applies
  • Maintains clinical status and staffs the unit if/when needed

Leadership/Personal Development

  • Functions as the technical “subject matter expert” for the section.
  • Maintains current knowledge of all radiology imaging and patient care equipment in
  • the section based on industry standards, regulatory requirements, and manufacturer
  • recommendations.
  • Monitors equipment log related to service and preventative maintenance to ensure
  • compliance with required service and maintenance schedules.
  • Reports incidences of equipment failure, irregularities in equipment performance and
  • equipment items in disrepair to the manager.
  • Facilitates service calls to proper repair company for correction of the incident.
  • Maintains communication with all radiologists to assure quality of service.
  • Trains technical staff in applying clinical protocols and keeps them abreast of
  • evolving techniques.
  • Collaborates with the manager and medical director to develop technical
  • assessment of job performance for employee performance appraisals, utilizing
  • objective, measurable criteria.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Quality

  • Actively participates in the departmental Quality Improvement Plan
  • Manages the departmental Radiation Safety Program
  • Oversees technical quality standards
  • Participates in formal and informal process improvement and problem solving to
  • enhance the quality of service to customers
  • Collects data to support the measurement and tracking components of quality management.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Graduate of an accredited school/college of Radiologic Technology.
  • Graduated from an accredited educational program in radiography, radiation therapy,
  • magnetic resonance, nuclear medicine, or diagnostic medical sonography.
  • State of Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety License (IDNS/IEMA) required for those in Diagnostic
  • Imaging (xray), CT, Mammography, Interventional Radiology, and Nuclear Medicine.
  • CPR BLS certification through American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Certification based on their modality/department:
    • Certification and registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
    • (ARRT) in Radiography, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Radiation Therapy, Magnetic
    • Resonance Imaging, Sonography or Mammography (clinical and technical competence
    • in mammography to meet MQSA requirements).
    • OR
    • Certification by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in
    • Sonography or Vascular Technology.
    • OR
    • Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) in
    • Nuclear Medicine
    • OR
    • ARMRIT certification

 

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 3 or more years of experience
