JOB SUMMARY 

Specialty Systems, Inc. has an immediate opening for a Lab Manager with the below described skills and experience to join our team of technical professionals supporting our Department of Defense customer at the Joint Base MDL-Lakehurst. In this position, you will have a high-profile role within the software support activity overseeing the development and ongoing in-service engineering support of unique Department of Defense systems. You will be working on the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) and the Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) systems, two of the Navy’s next generation mission critical systems for carrier aviation operations. Ideal candidates will thrive on organization and team management and have a broad set of technical skills. Individuals must be able to work both individually and within a team environment. As a member of our team, you will be able to experience the professional satisfaction of playing a key role in ensuring that our Department of Defense customer’s systems that have a direct impact on our country’s war-fighting and peacekeeping capabilities are performing at optimal levels. This position is located at our customer’s on-site location at Joint Base MDL-Lakehurst. In this position, you will work one of our customer’s Compressed Work Schedules:

  • Working four 9 hour days (M-Th) and an 8 hour day (F) for the first week of a cycle followed by four 9 hour days (M-Th) and being off on the second Friday for the second week of a cycle. This results in a 3 day weekend every other week!
  • Working 10 hour days (M-Th) every week. This results in a 3-day weekend every week!

Job responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee cybersecurity accreditation team and coordinate with Digital Division for Certification & Accreditation compliance for lab operations.
  • Oversee the installation of new equipment and software within the lab.
  • Oversee the tracking and configuration of lab assets and software.
  • Oversee the creation of custom lab test units for software/system testing,
  • Oversee configuration management for all lab documentation.
  • Coordinate the lab test scheduling.
  • Prepare the lab and conduct working level and VIP tours as requested.
  • Coordinate procurement and lifecycle management of lab equipment and software.
  • Maintain lab access control in coordination with branch heads and security personnel.
  • Maintain key access and Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO) program.
  • Educate and enforce all lab guidelines and standard operating procedures.
  • Conduct and document periodic laboratory safety and security audits; track and resolve corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with onsite facilities team to resolve any issues or conflicts related to building conditions.


Position Qualification Requirements:

Education, Certifications and Years of Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree. Directly relevant work experience may be accepted as a substitution for the degree requirement.
  • 5 or more years of experience managing a lab or technical team.
  • Position requires an active clearance at the Secret level. If no active clearance, must be able to obtain an interim secret level clearance within approximately 4 weeks of submittal of clearance application.

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Experience with complex, integrated systems involving both hardware and software.
  • Solid knowledge of IT hardware and software technologies, including various operating systems, hardware devices, system testing/evaluation related software tools, and cybersecurity practices.
  • Strong systems engineering foundational knowledge.
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, and SharePoint.
  • Knowledgeable with best testing practices in complex systems.
  • Solid background and knowledge in maintaining lab equipment.
  • Superior organizational and team management skills.
