Position Summary

The Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) oversees daily operations in a retail or outpatient pharmacy setting, ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of pharmaceutical care. As the on-site clinical and operational lead, the PIC supervises pharmacy staff, manages inventory, ensures regulatory compliance, and provides direct patient care. This role is pivotal in upholding the highest standards of patient safety, operational integrity, and customer service.


Responsibilities

  • Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, including DEA and Florida Board of Pharmacy standards.
  • Serves as the primary contact for regulatory inspections and audits.
  • Oversees prescription processing, medication dispensing, and inventory management.
  • Ensures accuracy and safety in all pharmacy activities.
  • Monitors and reports on medication safety, adverse events, and quality assurance metrics.
  • Supervises pharmacists, technicians, and support staff; manage scheduling, hiring, training, task delegation, and performance evaluation.
  • Provides daily leadership and mentorship to ensure safe and compliant operations.
  • Hires, trains, and schedules pharmacy staff (pharmacists, technicians, interns)
  • Implements training and development for site staff. Supports ongoing education and skill-building.
  • Provides direct patient care, including medication therapy management and counseling; resolves medication-related issues and collaborates with providers to optimize therapy.
  • Implements and monitors quality and safety initiatives, participates in adverse drug reaction (ADR) and drug utilization evaluation (DUE) programs, and supports continuous improvement efforts.
  • Manages ordering, receiving, storage, and returns of medications and supplies. Ensures proper handling of controlled substances and compliance with inventory controls documentation.
  • Maintains a patient-centered approach, addressing customer inquiries, concerns, and complaints professionally and promptly.
  • Maintains accurate records of all pharmacy transactions, patient interactions, and regulatory documentation.
  • Maintains compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, as well as Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Ensures proper recordkeeping, reporting, and adherence to licensing requirements
  • Maintains regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Participates in pharmacy meetings, policy development, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Engages in community outreach, health education, and wellness initiatives are as appropriate.
  • Supports implementation of new pharmacy programs and services

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BS) degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Valid Florida pharmacist license renewed every two (2) years.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in retail or outpatient pharmacy.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with pharmacy management systems and electronic health records
