Job Title:                   Shipping Clerk

Department:              Materials Handling

Reports To:                Warehouse Supervisor

FLSA Status:             Non-Exempt

 

 

SUMMARY

Performs all duties to ship finished product to our customers on time.   Responsible for shipping various other items to vendors/customers for the Technical group. Maintains accurate shipping records by verifying information, counts, weights and other measures against bills of lading, invoices, orders or other records and performs packaging duties in accordance with established packaging standards. Steps in as acting authority for Warehouse Supervisor except for issues concerning payroll, or other human resource responsibilities.

Performs all duties to maintain an accurate inventory count on all finished products and components in inventory location 0001 warehouse in main facility. 

Performs material handling duties of picking material for manufacturing jobs, recording material shortages and delivering picked material to the manufacturing floor. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following but are not limited to:

 

Shipping

1.     Interfaces with Customer Service to ensure "on-time" delivery and method of shipment for production and product development material.

2.     Ability to complete and control the flow of paper work for all shipping transactions.

3.     Prepares material and products for shipment per procedures or direct instructions from responsible shipping party.

4.     Affixes shipping label or stencil identifying shipping information on boxes or cartons.

5.     Assembles multiple cartons on skids per procedures and covers with "good wrap" or binding as required by established procedure. 

6.     Prepares all shipping papers with determined weights whether it be skids or packages. Schedules carriers and determines the most economic method of shipment.

7.     Advises warehouse personnel on proper way to package skids.

8.     Preparation of shipment requires the use of various packaging equipment such as wrapping, banding, weighing and container “filler material” machines/dispensers. 

9.     Operates NCFI foam packaging equipment.

10.  Operates various pieces of office equipment to produce shipping documents including the use of the FEDEX Powership system.

 

Cycle Counting    

11.  On a daily basis creates a Vantage physical inventory document to begin the cycle counting procedure.

12.  Prints the Vantage inventory document and performs cycle counting on the predetermined components and/or finished products.  If a large count variance occurs between the current on hand balance and what was physically counted, investigation is required to resolve the issue and reports discrepancies to immediate supervisor. Must have a working knowledge of the various transaction codes and their functions.

 

Material Handling 

13.  Receives the work order request from the manufacturing supervisor and fulfills the process by pulling component material required for the job and delivers material to the appropriate manufacturing cell.  Coordinates with the manufacturing supervisor the order of priority.

14.  Once material is delivered to the floor a Vantage transaction is performed to issue material toward the job. This position is responsible for resolution of all discrepancies concerning materials issued.  

15.  Operates various equipment such as, pallet stacker, tow motor, and pallet truck.

16.  Responsible for maintaining the ready use of the pallet stacker by keeping equipment charged.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two to five years’ experience in a shipping department.  Must have knowledge of shipping/receiving equipment such as foam packaging dispenser, stenciling machines, weight scales, banding machine and other small tools required. 

 

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, vendors, delivery personnel and other employees of the organization. Module experience with creating packing lists, various movement transactions and posting goods issue of materials shipped is required

                                                            


 

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Certificates, Registration, Licenses

A valid Pennsylvania driver's license, fork-lift and pallet stacker license are required.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee is occasionally required to sit.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 70 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
