Pay Rate: $30.29-$49.88 hourly Job Description: Under general supervision, the Radiation Therapist performs radiotherapy procedures as prescribed by a physician according to established standards and practices. Provides patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification, registration, and/or assessed competencies. Provides general orientation for all new Imaging employees and clinical interns from technical schools. Participates in quality assurance monitoring. Practice will be in accordance with laws and regulations and will adhere to established policies, procedures and practice guidelines. Delivers a prescribed and planned course of radiation therapy, using radiation therapy equipment according to established practices and standards. Obtains patient history, answers patient questions, and explains procedures; observes patient for any unusual reactions or events during treatment. Follows established departmental and hospital policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental and/or infection control standards. Schedules patients for treatments; interfaces with physicist at initiation of treatment; consults with supportive care physicians, nurses and social workers. Checks prescription, diagnosis, chart and patient identification, ensuring accurate treatments. Prepares electronic and/or written documentation as required by the profession and the department, such as evaluation results, individualized treatment plans, progress reports and other such reports. Prepares room and equipment for patient; transfers immobilized patient from stretcher to treatment couch, giving special care to catheters, IV’s, oxygen, respirator, chest tubes, and other life support; positions patient in prescribed anatomical positions for treatment. Reinforces recommendations given to patients by the physician, dietician, or other care provider, concerning reactions to treatment and care of the irradiated area, and prevention or treatment of generalized and local side effects. Performs verification and port film exposures for all treated areas and makes corrections or changes to therapy as directed by physician. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Ensure compliance for the departments with regulatory agencies as required. Provides general staff orientation / education. Performs periodic image quality control / quality assurance monitoring including PACS administration assistance. Serves as liaison for hospital information systems applications that apply to the Imaging department. QualificationsJob Qualifications: A minimum of associate’s degree in radiography with a certification in radiation therapy is required. Bachelor’s degree in radiation therapy is preferred. Graduate of a JRCERT approved school registered through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy and Radiography. State of Ohio licensed radiation therapist and radiographer; ARRT license; CPR certified. A minimum of 1-2 years of radiation therapy experience is preferred. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (Frequently: activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary Work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
