TITLE:            Coffee Shop Barista 

DEPARTMENT:            Coffee Shop

POSITION STATUS/HOURS:    As needed position to fill open shifts. Coffee Shop hours are Monday-Friday 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.  

Non-benefit eligible position.    

JOB SUMMARY:

Oversees operational functions of coffee shop. Works closely with Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) to ensure quality, efficiency, and service standards are adhered to. Demonstrates exceptional customer service. The Barista is responsible for honoring each and every customer by providing excellent service. He/she is also responsible for educating customers about premium coffees and teas. He/she displays a positive attitude at all times to ensure the return of our customers who are the reason for our business. Performs additional duties as assigned.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

•    Greets all customers with a friendly smile

•    Honors customers by providing quick, friendly, and personal service

•    Initiates dialogue and develops rapport with customers by learning their names, favorite drinks and food items

•    Generates customer satisfaction; responds appropriately to customer concerns

•    Communicates customer complaints/concerns to supervisor

•    Accurately processes transactions through the Point of Sale Register and counts back change to customers

•    Answers the telephone in a friendly manner using a professional greeting

•    Prepares, sells and serves variety of food items to customers

•    Maintains the highest level of standards for all product preparation

•    Adheres to all recipes and measurements

•    Adheres to all portion sizes when preparing all food items 

•    Educates customers on GRHC products and services

•    Follows health, safety and sanitation guidelines for all products

•    Communicates with coworkers & management to solve problems and improve quality & service

•    Maintains continuous communication with other staff functions during peak business times

•    Works with coworkers and management to effectively grow business 

•    Contributes to a positive work environment

•    Performs opening and closing duties as outlined on duties checklist

•    Selling product

•    Performs other duties as required to meet department needs


QUALIFICATIONS:

•    High School Graduate or equivalent.  

•    Barista experience in food service preparation and customer service preferred.  

•    Proficient computer and internet skills including all Microsoft applications, Point of Sale Register System and CBORD.  

•    Excellent customer service, organization, decision making and interpersonal skills required.  

•    Ability to work under occasional high demand periods and maintain organization of work, personal skills and relationships with others.  

•    Ability to adapt quickly to changes in work environment.  

•    Must be able to communicate effectively with people of diverse professional, educational and lifestyle backgrounds.  

•    Must be able to work independently.  

•    Should be enthusiastic, organized, dependable and neat; as well as willing to work with others in a cooperative spirit. 

•    Knowledge of sanitary and safety guidelines. ServSafe Certification a plus.  

•    Must follow safety & sanitation – clean as you go techniques.  Must be able to transfer 45 pounds, and stand and/or walk up to 90% or more of the shift.
