Position Purpose:

The Janitor provides assistance to the Maintenance Supervisor in the upkeep of JWCH, Wesley Health Care facilities. The Janitor is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, sanitation, and overall maintenance of the facilities. This role involves performing a variety of cleaning tasks, following established protocols and safety guidelines, and maintaining a neat and orderly environment. 

Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Provides the upkeep of the JWCH health care and other facilities by cleaning and maintenance which includes the following but not limited to sweeping, mopping, passing the vacuum, dusting and polishing furniture, empty trash receptacles and replace liners as needed.
  2. Cleans all areas of a medical facility such as patient exam rooms, bathrooms, laboratories, diagnostic testing areas, staff areas, offices, hallways, and waiting rooms.
  3. Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and mirrors.
  4. Refill restroom supplies, such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
  5. Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors.
  6. Operate floor cleaning equipment, such as floor scrubbers and carpet cleaners.
  7. Remove stains and maintain the appearance of carpets and rugs.
  8. Sort and separate recyclable materials from general waste.
  9. Follow proper disposal procedures for hazardous materials.
  10. Ensure the proper storage and handling of cleaning supplies.
  11. Report any safety hazards or incidents to the appropriate personnel.
  12. Adhere to all organizational safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
  13. Participate in required safety and compliance trainings and apply learned practices in daily work activities.
  14. Identify, report, and help mitigate unsafe conditions, incidents, or hazards in the workplace.
  15. Use equipment, tools, and supplies safely and responsibly in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  16. Maintain awareness of infection control, occupational health, and emergency preparedness procedures appropriate to the role.
  17. Maintain security by properly locking doors and securing premises as required.
  18. Participate in JWCH’s customer service training called AIDET on an annual basis.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You) to apply in patient encounters or team discussions.
  • Utilize the AIDET communication framework to communicate with patients and team members in a manner that reduces patient anxiety, increases patient compliance, and improves clinical outcomes.

  19. Other duties as assigned 

Requirements:

  1. Possess a valid CA Driver's License, clean driving record and able to travel to different sites
  2. Basic computer skills, including email and web navigation.
  3. Ability to move up to 50 pounds. 
  4. Ability to work varied hours/days, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
  5. Physical ability to stand for long period of times. 
  6. Physical ability to constantly bend, stoop, and stretch.
  7. Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques, equipment operation, and handling of cleaning chemicals.
  8. Ability to understand and follow instructions, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  9. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  10. Proven experience in janitorial or custodial work preferred.
  11. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
