The Federal Work Study (FWS) program is intended to provide a meaningful job experience, with direct supervision, that complements and reinforces the recipient’s educational program and/or career goals. Outcomes from the Federal Work Study program include:

POSITION: Federal Work Study – Biology and Natural Sciences

DEPARTMENT: Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Aid the lab coordinator in preparing and setting up laboratory exercises
Maintain a clean and organized lab space
Prepare solutions and culture media
Assist with maintenances and care of fish and plants in the aquaponic garden
Assist with construction and preparation of grow beds or other aquaponic garden structures
Perform minor clerical duties
Assist with creating hallway displays and other related projects
Complete the Federal Work Study orientation

REQUIREMENTS:

Must be eligible for Federal Work-Study and enrolled full time at the University of Saint Mary
Interest in the sciences
The ability to follow directions and protocols
The ability to work independently and take initiative
A team player with strong communication skills
Accuracy and attention to detail
Computer skills or a willingness to learn
Ability to appropriately handle confidential information
