The Federal Work Study (FWS) program is intended to provide a meaningful job experience, with direct supervision, that complements and reinforces the recipient’s educational program and/or career goals. Outcomes from the Federal Work Study program include:

POSITION: Federal Work Study – Community Service
DEPARTMENT: Campus Ministry
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Organize carpool for Soup Kitchen on the third Thursday of every month (we need at least 8 volunteers from 4pm-6:30pm).
- Communicate with local Leavenworth nonprofits on ways our students can help serve the community. Plan and promote service activities for our students (at least one a month). Maintain the Community Service Calendar.
- Organize and lead fundraisers for Mission Trips, Feed the Need, Spiro’s Closet, etc.
- Any other tasks to help support the Campus Ministry Department and local community
- Organize Spiro’s Closet:
- Put away and sort new donations
- Donate any clothing that do not fit with our needs to local charities
- Hang up or refold any clothes that need to be straightened out
- Check the food and see what we need to buy (make a list)
- Contact local food pantries about teaming up with food for Spiro’s Closet
- Organize and Prepare the Kitchen for Community use:
- Make sure all dishes are done and put away
- The Microwaves are clean and ready to be used by the community
- All counter spaces are cleared and disinfected for community use
- Make sure the fridge is clean and throw out any old food
- Post upcoming activities and events to the community
- Post positive comments and posts to uplift the community
- Take down old posts, organize, and create a fun display case every couple of weeks for the community to see
- Take down old posts, organize, and create a fun bulletin board displays every couple of weeks for the community to see
- Help find volunteers to help with Mass parts weekly
- Complete the Federal Work Study orientation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be eligible for Federal Work-Study and enrolled full time at the University of Saint Mary
- Openness toward religious experiences.
- A basic understanding of how service plays a key role in the mission of our university
- Comfortable engaging with new people
- A team player with strong communication skills
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Computer skills or a willingness to learn
- Ability to appropriately handle confidential information
