Federal Work Study - KLC Peer Tutor

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist students with reading comprehension, math, writing, research skills, and/or concepts key to the field in which the student-employee tutors 
• Participate in tutor training sessions offered by the Keleher Learning Commons
• Adhere to Keleher Learning Commons Code of Ethics 
• Develop and conduct presentations and skill shops on academic success related topics
• Maintain accurate records of all tutoring sessions 
• Comply with deadlines for items such as timecards 
• Complete the Federal Work Study orientation 
• Perform additional duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

• Recommendation from USM faculty member 
• Sophomore, Junior, or Senior standing (Freshmen may be considered on a case by case basis) 
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75
• An A or B in each of the courses tutored or demonstrated knowledge of the subject 
• Ability to abide by guidelines regarding student confidentiality 
• Strong communication and teamwork skills 
• Ability to manage tutoring schedules and reporting procedures 
• Possesses a willingness to explain the same material in different ways with patience and an understanding that everyone learns differently
