Job Description
|  General Purpose of Job:  Following established procedure, obtains blood specimens for clinical laboratory analysis from the outreach population served by the Sparrow Health Care System. Evaluates and prepares blood and body fluid specimens for analysis and performs moderately complex testing procedures as directed. Prepares specimens for delivery to the various clinical areas of the laboratory. Efficiently perform all computer functions necessary to process all patient information including accurate billing. |

| Education | • High school diploma or GED • Successful completion of a formal phlebotomy education program/course OR Medical Assistant Program OR one-year experience as a phlebotomist OR completion of the Sparrow Laboratory Phlebotomy Trainee Program. |
| Specialized Knowledge and Skills | • Ability to read, follow directions and perform procedures associated with specimen collection, handling and processing. • Ability to utilize recalled knowledge to interpret or apply verbal, numeric or visual data. • Ability to communicate, both written and verbal, with patient, laboratory staff and other professional staff to complete workload. • Exemplary attendance documented by previous employers. • Works well with little or no direct supervision • Phlebotomy externship or previous phlebotomy experience. Preferred. • Previous experience with Laboratory test terminology. Preferred. |
