Quality Engineer

AS9100 | APQP | PPAP | Manufacturing Quality

We are seeking a Quality Engineer to support new product development, manufacturing, and continuous improvement initiatives within a precision manufacturing environment. This role applies AS9100 quality systems, APQP, PPAP, SPC, GD&T, and root cause analysis methodologies to ensure products meet customer, regulatory, and industry quality requirements while supporting production, suppliers, and customer quality initiatives.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Support and maintain the company's Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with AS9100 and ISO 14001 standards.
  • Develop, update, and maintain quality documentation, including procedures, work instructions, quality alerts, inspection plans, and process documentation.
  • Participate in the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process with cross-functional teams to ensure customer quality requirements are achieved.
  • Review customer contracts and verify compliance with customer-specific quality requirements.
  • Maintain assigned Plex workflow activities and documentation.
  • Define critical product characteristics, inspection criteria, and appropriate inspection methods.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineers to identify and validate critical product characteristics.
  • Apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques to monitor and improve manufacturing processes.
  • Support new product introductions, qualification activities, and production launches.
  • Prepare quality documentation, including:
    • PPAP packages
    • First Article Inspections (FAI)
    • Process FMEAs
    • Control Plans
    • Check Sheets
    • Quality Alerts
    • Customer submission documentation
  • Coordinate and perform quality validation activities, including:
    • First Article Inspection (FAI)
    • Gage R&R Studies
    • Measurement System Analysis (MSA)
  • Lead and participate in Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) initiatives involving customer, supplier, and internal quality issues.
  • Drive continuous improvement through Root Cause Analysis, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma methodologies, A3 problem solving, countermeasures, and poka-yoke (error-proofing).
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable customer, regulatory, government, and industry quality standards.
  • Communicate quality concerns, trends, and process improvement recommendations to production teams and management.
  • Participate on the Material Review Board (MRB) to evaluate and disposition nonconforming material while ensuring rework verification requirements are met.
  • Support internal quality audits, implement corrective actions, and recommend process improvements.
  • Develop work instructions and provide technical guidance and training to quality inspectors and production personnel.
  • Train employees on critical product characteristics and quality expectations.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives throughout manufacturing operations.
  • Complete customer quality submissions and generate Certificates of Conformance (CoC).
  • Perform quality engineering activities supporting Engineering Change Notices (ECN) and Process Change Requests (PCR).

 

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Quality, or Bachelor's degree in Quality, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 5 years of quality engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supporting Quality Management Systems compliant with AS9100 and ISO 14001.
  • Working knowledge of APQP, PPAP, FAI, FMEA, Control Plans, SPC, MSA, and Gage R&R methodologies.
  • Experience leading Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) activities and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, A3 problem solving, countermeasures, and poka-yoke techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency in GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
  • Experience using handheld precision measuring equipment and surface plate inspection tools.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience improving manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to maintain compliance with company safety procedures, security protocols, and PPE requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ASQ (American Society for Quality) certification (CQE, CQA, or related certification).
  • Experience using Plex Manufacturing ERP/QMS.
  • Experience supporting aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Additional experience with customer quality portals and electronic quality documentation systems.
