Detention Cook - Full Time

Albany County is seeking to hire a Cook in the Detention Center. This is a full-time, benefited position that will be responsible for providing a balanced nutritional program for the inmate population.

The working hours for this position will be 7:30am – 5:30pm. This position will work four, 10-hour shifts any combination of times.  Weekend availability is a must.  

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Graduate or GED;
• Prefer some cooking experience.

Desired Qualifications:

• Be self-directed, organized;
• The ability to work independently as well as with other kitchen staff;
• Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

The Cook is responsible for performing the following duties:

• Preparing balanced nutritional meals for the occupants according to a pre-established menu;
• Ensuring that preparation techniques meet OSHA safety and health requirements for: Protective barriers during preparation; Proper serving size; Proper serving temperature; Proper equipment sanitation & storage.
• Accounting for utensil, equipment and implement: Counts before and after use (each meal); Proper function, condition, and needed repairs; Labor supervision & work schedules.
• Maintain the security of the kitchen areas and other areas used;
• Receive, off-load inventory, and store all supplies;
• Forecast, order, and verify projected supply needs;
• Comply with all Detention Center policies and procedures;
• Report to the Jail Administrator, Sergeant, Corporal/shift supervisor;
• Prepare and document meals prepared for inmates with special dietary needs;
• Other duties as assigned.

Salary: $17.33/hour
