Job Description: Forklift Operator

Department: Crossdock Job Status: Full-Time Reports to: Shift Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY

As a team member in Cross dock Operations, you will be a part of Carter LOGISTEED Express’ competitive and lively work environment. Forklift Operators are the center of supply chain cross docking in the Carter LOGISTEED Network and play a vital role in the manufacturing of popular brands of vehicles seen on the road today. Forklift Operation requires attention to detail, ability to perform in a high-energy, fast-paced environment. Attention to safety and 5S standards are trained and required. Necessary processes to complete job are trained.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Operate sit-down forklifts; stand-up forklift experience is preferred. 
  • Load and unload inbound and outbound trailers using a forklift. 
  • Pull and move materials from rack bins using a forklift. 
  • Scan freight and materials into the system using handheld barcode scanners. 
  • Verify shipping labels and match freight to shipping documentation. 
  • Stage inbound and outbound freight accurately for shipment. 
  • Strap, secure, and prepare freight for safe transportation. 
  • Notify the supervisor of any freight overages, shortages, or damage. 
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment by following 5S standards and performing general housekeeping duties. 
  • Follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements. 
  • Work Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. 
  • Work overtime as required, including staying past scheduled hours and occasional weekend shifts. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 EDUCATION:

High School Diploma or GED required. 


EXPERIENCE: 

  • Previous warehouse, dock, cross-dock, or forklift experience is highly preferred. 
  • Experience operating a sit-down forklift is required; stand-up forklift experience is preferred. 
  • Ability to read shipping labels and accurately match freight to documentation. 
  • Ability to learn new processes and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Self-driven with a positive attitude and willingness to work in a team environment. 
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety. 
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality are required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish). 
  • Familiarity with C-TPAT or secure supply chain procedures. 
  • Experience handling automotive freight.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

None 


COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Ability to learn warehouse management systems and handheld scanning devices. 
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn new software as needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift up to approximately 50 pounds. 
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout an entire shift. 
  • Ability to safely operate powered industrial equipment. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, non-climate-controlled dock environment.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 

Solid work history and willingness to successfully function in a team environment. 


WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

This position is located within our crossdock facility. You will need to follow all correct and proper PPE requirements set for entering the dock area. Such as but not limited to, wearing a reflective vest, shirt, or jacket, and steel toe shoes or shoe coverings. You will also need to maintain any and all safety certifications and standards necessary as set by management.
