Responsibilities
Peraton is seeking a Software Engineering Supervisor Lead to oversee and mentor a team of software engineers supporting NASA’s White Sands Complex. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, departmental coordination, and lifecycle oversight for software development activities supporting mission-critical communication systems. This role ensures seamless integration, development, testing, and delivery of applications and systems that enable NASA’s TDRSS communications and satellite data distribution.

Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and align work efforts with the Software Engineering Manager.
- Serve as acting Software Engineering Manager when required.
- Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Systems Engineers, and technical stakeholders to plan, design, and develop electronic data processing systems.
- Identify and resolve technical and operational challenges with awareness of broader departmental impacts.
- Adjust departmental plans and priorities to support personnel, equipment, and resource needs.
- Track and update project schedules; provide weekly status reports to customers and stakeholders.
- Influence internal and external teams to drive adoption of recommended technical directions.
- Champion Agile best practices to improve team velocity, predictability, and transparency.
- Create and deliver technical content and presentations for engineering teams.
- Guide software engineers through the full software development lifecycle and ensuring disciplined processes.
- Drive modernization of legacy software systems, including refactoring, restructuring, and transitioning outdated codebases to modern architectures and technologies.
- Provide first-level support directly to customers.
- Assess legacy system constraints, dependencies, and risks to create modernization strategies aligned with mission requirements.
- Mentor engineers on Agile thinking, iterative delivery, and clean‑code practices to reduce technical debt.
- Lead and evaluate personnel performance; provide direction, coaching, and day-to-day leadership.

Qualifications
6 years of experience, may have lead experience

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or related technical field.
- 6+ years of professional experience.
- 5+ years of experience with software development, lifecycle and quality assurance practices.
- Practical experience applying Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) within engineering teams.
- Hands‑on experience modernizing, refactoring, or redesigning legacy systems while ensuring system stability.
- Security clearance - this position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance and to maintain the clearance thereafter. You must be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship.
- Must be able to maintain ability to access government worksite.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior supervisory experience.
- Software engineering experience with Linux or Windows systems.
- Experience with object-oriented programming languages (C++, Java).
- SQL database experience.
- Knowledge of software design principles.
- Experience migrating monolithic or legacy architecturesÂ
- Ability to adapt and remain flexible in a dynamic environment.
- Strong teamwork, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Effective interpersonal and customer‑interaction skills.

Target Salary Range
$86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.EEO
