UTILITY OPERATOR

Primary Function:

Employee will be assigned to the 'Pot Carrier/Melt Shop Support' position. The general shift will be 11am-7pm but may vary according to operating needs and the department's flexibility requirements. Assignments will be primarily to non-entry-level positions; however, duties may include any and all processes, equipment, and positions within the department. Length of assignment will vary according to operating need. When not assigned to a specific position, employee performs general labor type duties.

 

Tools and Equipment:

Various pieces of mill equipment, mobile equipment, material handling devices, chains, slings, simple hand tools, etc.

 

Materials:

Various sizes and shapes of Metalac products, production support supplies, test pieces, scrap, dirt, trash, etc.

Direction Exercised: None

 

Working Procedure:

1. Follows standard operating procedures.

2. Personally observes safety rules and regulations and motivates others to maintain a safe work environment.

3. Supports department production through flexibility assignments as needed.

4. Performs the duties of the position(s) to which employee is assigned.

5. Cleans and operates machinery as required. Maintains orderly work areas.

6. Operates and lubricates moving parts on mobile equipment; refuels mobile equipment.

7. Knowledge of pit tempering, dust control, and removal of slag.

8. Operates table saw, skid steer loader, and manlift.

9. Acquires knowledge, training, and skills necessary to perform various positions.

10. Demonstrates commitment to continuous improvement, problem solving, and teamwork.

11. Supports and assists all levels of management in achieving goals and objectives.

12. Performs other duties and completes special assignments as required.
