JOB TITLE: Director of Finance and Accounting                                    REPORTS TO: CEO & Fractional CFO


SUPERVISES: Accounting and Finance Personnel (current and future)



SUMMARY:

This is a unique opportunity for an ambitious finance professional to build and lead the Company's finance and accounting function.


Reporting directly to the CEO and working alongside an experienced Fractional CFO, you will play a hands-on role in transforming the Company's finance and accounting operations, improving business processes, implementing best practices, and building the financial infrastructure needed to support the Company's long-term success.


You will also help develop the financial insights, reporting, and decision-making tools that enable executive leadership to drive the business forward. You will receive direct mentorship from the Company's Fractional CFO while partnering closely with the CEO to help shape the future of the Company's finance and accounting function and serve as a trusted business partner to executive leadership. As the Company evolves, you will have the opportunity to expand your leadership responsibilities, build and develop a finance and accounting team, and grow into a broader strategic leadership role within the organization.

FINANCE & ACCOUNTING RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead all accounting and financial operations of the Company.
  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and management reports.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, banking relationships, and cash management.
  • Develop and maintain rolling cash flow forecasts to support executive decision-making.
  • Develop annual budgets, forecasts, and long-range financial plans.
  • Build financial models and perform pricing, margin, profitability, and business analyses.
  • Develop executive dashboards, key performance indicators (KPIs), and management reporting tools.
  • Partner with executive leadership on strategic initiatives and business decisions.
  • Oversee the Company's outsourced IT services provider and serve as the primary business liaison for technology-related initiatives.
  • Own all financial, tax, and regulatory compliance activities, including coordination of federal, state, and local filings, business registrations, licenses, and reporting requirements.
  • Oversee the Company’s insurance programs, including broker relationships, policy administration, renewals, and coverage assessments.


PROCESS IMPROVEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluate and improve accounting processes and workflows.
  • Automate manual reporting and accounting processes whenever practical.
  • Implement scalable financial systems and reporting solutions.
  • Strengthen internal controls and financial governance practices.
  • Improve financial visibility across the organization.
  • Build a finance infrastructure capable of supporting future company growth.
  • Develop standardized reporting methodologies and performance measurement systems.
  • Recommend process improvements that increase efficiency, accuracy, and business insight.



LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and executive leadership team.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to simplify processes, improve decision-making, and increase organizational effectiveness
  • Collaborate across departments to improve operational and financial performance.
  • Recruit, mentor, train, and develop finance and accounting personnel.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
  • Establish performance expectations and provide coaching and professional development opportunities.
  • Communicate financial performance clearly and effectively to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Support organizational planning and growth initiatives through financial leadership and strategic insight.


EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
  • Advanced financial management, accounting, or business coursework desirable.


EXPERIENCE:

  • Six (6) to ten (10) years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
  • Experience leading accounting operations, financial reporting, and budgeting functions.
  • Strong experience with forecasting, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), and cash flow management.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities, solve problems, and drive meaningful business improvements.
  • Experience developing financial models and executive-level reporting.
  • Experience implementing or improving accounting systems, processes, and controls.
  • Experience working in a growing entrepreneurial or professional services environment preferred.
  • Experience in construction or real estate industry preferred.

 

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling.
  • Proficiency with accounting, ERP, and financial reporting systems.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret financial information and communicate insights to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and organizational levels.
  • Demonstrates initiative, accountability, and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for building systems, processes, and teams.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position frequently works in an office environment and requires extended periods of sitting and use of general office equipment.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with executives, employees, vendors, consultants, and external stakeholders and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting of materials up to 25 pounds may be required.
  • Occasional local travel may be required.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment is primarily in an indoor office setting with a hybrid work arrangement. This role routinely uses standard office equipment including computers, telephones, scanners, and other business equipment.

Occasional visits to client locations, financial institutions, insurance providers, or other business meetings may be required.

HOURS:

The position is full-time, exempt, at-will employment. General work hours will be as needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.


LOCATION:

Based out of Real Projectives’ office in Laurel, Maryland with a hybrid work schedule.


SALARY:

Compensation will be salary commensurate with experience.  Potential bonuses based on contributions to Company performance.
