Job Summary

The EEG (Electroencephalogram) Technician is responsible for performing diagnostic tests that measure electrical activity in the brain and nervous system. The role includes preparing patients, operating EEG equipment, monitoring recordings, and ensuring accurate, high‑quality data collection for physician interpretation while maintaining patient safety and comfort.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GEDrequired
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certificationrequired
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and basic brain anatomy
  • Ability to read, write, and understand verbal and written communication

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited EEG or Neurodiagnostic Technology program
  • Certification or eligibility by ABRET (R.EEG.T), preferred orrequiredwithin 1–2 years of hire
  • PreviousEEG experience, preferably in a hospital or neurology setting
  • Knowledge of electrical physiology and neurodiagnostic procedures

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and specialized EEG tests on patients of all ages
  • Prepare patients for procedures by explaining the process and positioning electrodes correctly
  • Operate EEG and related neurodiagnostic equipment according to established protocols
  • Monitor recordings to ensure quality and recognize artifact or abnormal brain activity
  • Document patient medical history, medications, and observations during the test
  • Maintain equipment and clean electrodes according to infection control standards
  • Assistin long-term monitoring, sleep studies, and evoked potential studies as trained
  • Provideaccurate,timelydocumentation in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Communicate clearly with physicians, nursing staff, and patients
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, safety, and regulatory standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods during procedures
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and fine motor use for electrode placement
  • Manual dexterity for equipment handling and documentation
  • Exposure to patients with neurological conditions including critical care settings
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment as needed
