About Shepherd Electric Supply
Since 1892, Shepherd Electric Supply has been the first call when complex, time-critical electrical challenges need to be solved and reliability truly matters. We move materials accurately and on time so contractors stay on schedule, projects stay on track, and customers never have to wonder if we’ll come through.
Our success comes from people who take pride in doing things the right way — safely, accurately, and with care for teammates and customers alike. If you want to do work that matters at a company that notices, this is the place.
Why This Role Matters
When shipments go out accurately and on time, contractors stay on schedule and customers trust us with the next call. This role is where reliability becomes real. Every order that leaves correctly — no rework, no delays, no surprises — is a promise kept.
The Shipping Department is one of the last touchpoints before materials reach the customer. What happens here directly shapes how Shepherd is experienced in the field.
Work Shift and Hours:
Monday - Friday, 10:00am - 7:00pm
Compensation Details:
The expected pay rate for this position is starting between $18.00 - $20.00 per hour depending on experience.
Key Outcomes - Organized by what matters, not just what you do.
Order Accuracy & Quality
Pack, label, and stage outbound shipments correctly so nothing gets reworked or returned
Verify order details before sealing — catch errors here, not at the customer site
Handle materials with care to prevent damage in transit
Flow & Throughput
Process shipments on a consistent cycle to keep order flow moving
Keep the shipping area clear and organized — bottlenecks here ripple downstream
Load and unload trucks safely and efficiently using provided equipment
Safety & Standards
Follow all safety guidelines and proper lifting techniques — no exceptions, no shortcuts
Maintain a clean, organized work area that supports safe, efficient operations
Operate stand-up and sit-down forklifts safely and in compliance with all protocols
Communication & Improvement
Flag issues early — accuracy problems, safety concerns, supply shortages — before they compound
Support improvement efforts that make the shipping operation faster, safer, or more reliable
Cross-train on additional shipping procedures to increase team flexibility
What Success Looks Like - After 90 days, you and your supervisor should both be able to point to these markers:
Your shipments go out accurately — rework and returns tied to shipping errors are rare
Outbound shipments consistently hit their time windows
When you hand off work, the next person in the chain doesn’t have to fix it or chase you down
Safety practices are second nature — consistent during both steady and high-volume periods
Your teammates and supervisors trust that your station runs without needing to be watched
Who Thrives Here - This role is a strong fit if:
You’d rather flag a problem early than hope it works out
You take pride in work that’s invisible when done right — the shipment just arrives, correct and on time
You’re steady under pressure and don’t need someone watching to do things correctly
You care about the people downstream who depend on your work
You’re willing to learn, ask questions, and improve how things get done — not just follow a script
Qualifications & Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required
Minimum 3 years of general shipping and receiving experience preferred
Mandatory forklift experience — stand-up and sit-down
Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks including lifting up to 80 lbs. using proper technique
Valid driver’s license
Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, and Excel)
Strong attention to detail and commitment to getting things right the first time
Dependable attendance and a team-oriented mindset
Ability to successfully complete pre-employment screening requirements
