Description

Laurens County is seeking a dependable CDL Driver/Heavy Equipment Operator to support daily Solid Waste operations. This position is responsible for safely operating commercial vehicles, including roll-off trucks, tractor-trailers, dump trucks, and other specialized solid waste equipment, to transport municipal solid waste, recyclables, construction debris, and equipment throughout the county. Employees in this role also operate heavy equipment to load, unload, and manage waste materials at convenience centers, transfer stations, and other county facilities. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, customer-oriented, and experienced in commercial driving and equipment operation.

Requirements

  • Safely operate Class A or Class B commercial vehicles, including roll-off trucks, dump trucks, tractor-trailers, hook-lift trucks, and other solid waste equipment. 
  • Transport municipal solid waste, recyclables, construction debris, and other materials between county facilities, convenience centers, transfer stations, and disposal sites. 
  • Deliver, exchange, and retrieve roll-off containers while following safe loading, hauling, and unloading procedures. 
  • Operate heavy equipment such as front-end loaders, excavators, skid steers, and other equipment to load trailers, manage waste materials, and maintain county solid waste facilities. 
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections, complete required vehicle reports, and identify maintenance needs. 
  • Comply with all DOT regulations, county policies, environmental regulations, and established safety procedures. 
  • Assist with general solid waste operations, site maintenance, and emergency response activities as needed.      
  • Provide courteous and professional service while interacting with residents, contractors, and county staff. 


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two (2) to five (5) years of experience operating commercial vehicles and/or heavy equipment in solid waste, public works, construction, transportation, or a related field. 
  • High school diploma or GED. 
  • Valid South Carolina Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake endorsement, or the ability to obtain the required CDL within an      established time frame. 
  • Experience operating roll-off trucks, dump trucks, tractor-trailers, loaders, excavators, skid steers, or similar equipment is preferred. 
  • Ability to safely operate commercial vehicles and heavy equipment in varying weather and working conditions. 
  • Ability to lift up to 70 pounds and perform physically demanding work.
