Job DetailsJob Location: Lawrence, KS 66045 Position:             Head Cheerleading Coach Unit/Sport:        Spirit Squad Reports to:        Director of Spirit Squad Appointment:  Part time FLSA status:       Exempt    Position Summary: The Head Cheerleading Coach is responsible for the leadership, strategic direction, and day-to-day operations of the University of Kansas Cheerleading program. The Head Cheerleading Coach is responsible for a team of Coed and All Girl Team cheer team (not to exceed 34 members), organizing practices, game day and University events, teaching new and innovative techniques and cheers, and conducting off-season camps. This position will average 25 hours per week.    Duties and Responsibilities of the Position: Organize all practices and work with the Spirit Squad Coordinator on game day and University events; Attend an equal number of games for Men’s and Women’s Basketball (rotation with additional staff shared at the minimum equally); Be available to attend most practices and all post-season travel; Create innovative crowd involving material for all gameday environments; Choreograph and perfect routines for performances and competition; Assist the Spirit Squad Coordinator with tryouts, clinics and other special events; Recruit overall high-quality student athletes to participate in cheerleading by hosting recruit clinics, actively reaching out to perspective athletes, and attending recruiting combines; Maintain inventory of uniforms, warm-ups and equipment, controlling the distribution and return of KUAC issued property; Assist Spirit Squad Director with appearance schedules for members of the team; Uphold and execute rules and regulations fairly to all team members and staff while ensuring all cheer activities adhere to safety guidelines and manage any potential risks associated with performances; Maintain a healthy social media presence via University accounts by managing the accounts for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.; Actively seek opportunities for fund raising, and ensure the profitability of such events.    Work Environment This job operates in both a professional office environment and outside at sports-related events, including inclement weather. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and various digital devices, including, but not limited to: cell phone, printer, copy machine, and other related devices. This job requires flexibility and adaptability in schedule and the ability to perform job related duties on short notice.    Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This position may require frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 25 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; and working in all weather conditions.  Travel Occasional travel may occur with this position.  Hours of Work This is a part-time position. Days and hours of work will vary based on the needs of the position. QualificationsRequired Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution; 2+ years of coaching experience in collegiate or competitive cheer environments including stunting training with spotting techniques; Current USA Cheer safety certification, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire. Background in choreography, performance development, and/or an elite level collegiate cheerleading environment; Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills; Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel as required by event schedules.  Preferred Qualifications: 4+ years of collegiate coaching experience within Division I or a Power Five conference; Experience preparing teams for NCA/UCA College Nationals or similar national competitions; Experience managing program budgets, fundraising activities, and large-scale operations; Familiarity with Big 12 Conference and NCAA spirit guidelines
