We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Cost Accountant to join our Lawrence, Kansas team. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring the accuracy of product costing, inventory valuation, and manufacturing financial reporting while partnering with operations and leadership to drive business performance. 

What You'll Do 

As a Cost Accountant, you will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of manufacturing cost data and providing financial insights that support operational and strategic decision-making. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Process and analyze daily manufacturing work orders and resolve discrepancies. 

  • Partner with production teams to reduce and eliminate work order errors. 

  • Calculate and track labor efficiency metrics, including Units Per Labor Hour (UPLH). 

  • Prepare monthly journal entries and support P&L review activities. 

  • Maintain inventory ledger (IL) and general ledger (GL) integrity. 

  • Perform inventory valuation, cost accounting, and perpetual inventory analysis. 

  • Conduct variance analysis, including material, labor, and purchase price variances (PPV). 

  • Analyze obsolete inventory and recommend corrective actions. 

  • Track project costs and provide reporting for product and operational initiatives. 

  • Participate in product development and cross-functional project reviews. 

  • Manage the annual standard cost roll process. 

  • Develop cost quotes and financial analyses for business leaders and field personnel. 

  • Prepare and present monthly product cost reporting to Purchasing, Sales, and executive leadership. 

  • Support physical inventory processes and cycle count activities. 

 

What Success Looks Like 

The primary focus areas for this role include: 

  • Ensuring accurate product costing and inventory valuation. 

  • Driving work order accuracy through collaboration with manufacturing teams. 

  • Successfully executing the annual standard cost roll process. 

  • Providing meaningful analysis and reporting that supports business decisions. 

 

What We're Looking For 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field. 

  • 3–5 years of manufacturing cost accounting experience. 

  • Strong understanding of inventory accounting, standard costing, and variance analysis. 

  • Experience working with integrated ERP or financial systems. 

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and reporting. 

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. 

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments.
