DEFINITION:

 

The role of a Dental Hygienist is a key part of dental care and maintenance. Working as part of a dental team, Dental Hygienists are responsible for performing an array of clinical duties that improve the health of their patients. This includes providing preventive and therapeutic oral health care, with a focus on patient education, screenings, and cleanings.

 

EDUCATION:

 

A dental hygienist must have an Associateʼs Degree in Dental Hygiene although a Bachelorʼs Degree is preferred.

 

REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS (IF APPLICABLE):

 

Dental Hygienist License with the State of Oklahoma

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

       Valid Dental Hygienist License with the State of Oklahoma

       Completion of a course of study in dental hygiene accredited by the American Dental Association as evidenced by a degree or certification

       Current CPR Certification

       Radiology Certification

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

       Possess strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills; time-management and organizational skills, including being punctual, responsive, and efficient

       Good communication skills with a gentle touch who can connect with the patient

       In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations

       Passion for patient education and preventive care

       Commitment to ongoing professional development
