Gehlen Catholic School seeks an inspiring, organized High School Musical Director to lead our 9–12 Drama Department in producing its annual musical. The ideal candidate coordinates all aspects of the production to ensure a safe, creative, and highly instructional environment. They must align the theatrical experience with Gehlen Catholic’s core values of faith, leadership, service, and Christ-centered sportsmanship.

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Production & Artistic Leadership: Select a script and score that match community standards and maximize student participation. Oversee auditions, assign cast roles, and block all dramatic stage scenes.
  • Rehearsal Coordination: Plan and execute after-school and weekend rehearsal schedules. Teach participating 9–12 grade students acting fundamentals, stage presence, and performance etiquette.
  • Department Collaboration: Work directly with the 7–12 Choral Director, instrumental music instructors, and technical volunteers to weave vocals, pit instrumentation, choreography, and stage sets into a unified production.
  • Administrative Management: Secure scripts and performance licensing. Manage the allocated production budget, coordinate ticket marketing, and supervise student stagehands and crew members.
  • Faith & Mission Alignment: Mentor students to become effective communicators and responsible citizens. Ensure the backstage and onstage environment fosters teamwork, mutual respect, and Christian values.

Requirements

 

  • Experience: Previous experience directing or assisting with high school, youth, or community theater productions is highly preferred.
  • Musical Literacy: A basic understanding of theatrical stagecraft, repertoire, vocal mechanics, and structural production timelines.
  • Skills: Exceptional time-management, direct communication, and group organizational skills.
  • Compliance: Must complete a standard background check, fingerprinting, and Diocesan Virtus Volunteer Training.
