2nd Shift (Mon - Thur. 3:15 pm to 1:45 am with OT Friday and /or Saturday)

The Position:

The Plastics Supervisor is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all molding operations during the assigned shift to ensure production goals, quality standards, safety requirements, and cost objectives are achieved. This position oversees employees, equipment, materials, and production processes while promoting continuous improvement and maintaining compliance with company policies and procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Production Planning and Operations

  • Plan, organize, and coordinate daily molding operations for the assigned shift.
  • Conduct daily pre-shift meetings to communicate production goals, safety updates, and operational priorities.
  • Review production schedules and determine staffing and labor requirements to meet production targets.
  • Verify supplies required for scheduled production are available.
  • Assign and coordinate work activities within the molding department.
  • Supervise machine setup, changeovers, and startup procedures for production runs.
  • Monitor machine performance and production output, making adjustments as necessary to maintain efficiency and quality.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment malfunctions, startup issues, and quality problems.
  • Ensure finished products meet customer quality standards and are properly packaged before transfer to finished goods.
  • Ensure all production, quality, and operational reports are completed accurately for each shift.
  • Review production results against established goals and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Verify labor reporting and time entries for accuracy.

Employee Supervision and Development

  • Train, instruct, and orient employees on company procedures, safety policies, machine operations, and production processes.
  • Ensure employees operate equipment safely and maintain clean, organized workstations.
  • Monitor employee performance and adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and development opportunities for team members.
  • Evaluate employees based on attendance, productivity, attitude, and performance.

Communication and Problem Resolution

  • Conduct shift-to-shift communication to ensure smooth operational transitions.
  • Address employee concerns and operational issues including production delays, quality defects, and attendance matters.
  • Document production or personnel issues and communicate action plans to management.
  • Implement corrective actions to resolve operational problems and prevent recurrence.
  • Prepare shop packets and documentation for upcoming production runs.

Continuous Improvement

  • Promote and support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities within molding operations.
  • Support lean manufacturing practices and operational efficiency initiatives.

Education and Experience

Minimum: High School diploma and 1-2 years working in a plastics manufacturing environment.

Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or manufacturing-related education preferred. 3-5 years of experience in plastics manufacturing or injection molding operations. Previous supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.


Functional Requirements

Routinely able to:

  • Manually lift and move product and materials up to 55 lbs. through regular physical exertion, including but not limited to reach forward, reach overhead, lift, carry, crouch and bend.
  • Power grip and wrist turn, including the use of hand tools and/or steering for truck.
  • Walk, sit or stand for up to 12 hours with intermittent breaks.
  • Push / pull 100lbs.
  • See, inspect, and evaluate product quality
  • Read and understand written work instructions in English
  • Work in a non-climate controlled environment, including hot and humid conditions.
  • Walk up and down steps
  • Climb ladders and stairs of varying height
  • Wear task-based Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
    • Protective Footwear;
