The Position:

The Secondary Operations Technician is responsible for performing post-production processes on parts and assemblies to meet customer specifications, quality standards, and production schedules. This role involves operating secondary equipment, performing manual finishing work, and ensuring all parts are processed accurately and efficiently.

Duties & Responsibilities:

During a typical day, the Secondary Operations Technician may:

1. Measure specified dimensions to ensure conformance to customer and engineering specifications using gauges, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments.

2. Read, understand, and follow both general and part-specific work instructions.

3. Operate a drill press and run taps as required.

4. Work with drills, lathes, and CNC machines to perform secondary operations.

5. Mill gates from molded parts.

6. Salvage materials according to approved procedures and quality guidelines.

7. Set up and operate secondary equipment such as heat injection units, pad printers, sonic welders, and hot stampers.

8. Heat and install inserts as required by part specifications.

9. Operate the pad printer to mark parts per customer requirements.

10. Individually label each part in compliance with work instructions and quality standards.


In addition, the Secondary Operations Technician may:

11. Analyze production schedules and estimate labor requirements for job completion.

12. Schedule, coordinate, and assign work to meet production demands.

13. Audit products at the workstation to ensure they meet customer quality standards and are packaged correctly before movement to the finished goods area.

14. Ensure all production and quality reports are completed accurately and on time.

Education & Experience Requirements:

Minimum: High School diploma or equivalent; One to two years of experience in a plastics manufacturing environment

Preferred: Previous experience in a plastics manufacturing environment


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of machining processes.
  2. Knowledge of LSI products and customers.
  3. Knowledge of proper packaging techniques.
  4. Basic mathematical skills.
  5. Written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Strong organizational skills.
  1. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment
  2. High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all tasks
  3. Ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism and maintain confidentiality

Functional Requirements

Consistently able to:

  • Manually lift and move product and materials up to 55 lbs. through regular physical exertion, including but not limited to reach forward, reach overhead, lift, carry, crouch and bend.
  • Power grip and wrist turn, including the use of hand tools and/or steering for truck.
  • Walk, sit or stand for up to 12 hours with intermittent breaks.
  • Push / pull 100lbs.
  • See, inspect, and evaluate product quality
  • Read and understand written work instructions in English
  • Work in a non-climate controlled environment, including hot and humid conditions.
  • Walk up and down steps
  • Climb ladders and stairs of varying height
  • Wear task-based Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
    • Protective Footwear;
    • Hearing Protection
    • Protective Eyewear
    • Gloves
    • Additional PPE may as required by specific tasks
