At Corecivic, we do more than manage inmates, we care for people. Corecivic聽is currently seeking Nurse Practitioner Primary Care聽who have a passion for providing the highest quality care in an institutional setting.

The Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner Primary Care under the supervision of the facility physician, provides advanced nursing services and patient care in the facility鈥檚 medical program to inmates/residents.

The successful applicant should be able to perform ALL of the following functions at a pace and level of performance consistent with the actual job performance requirements.

Primary Healthcare Services:

  • 聽 聽 聽 聽聽Conducts thorough medical evaluations, physical examinations, and medical histories for incarcerated individuals.

    聽聽聽聽Diagnoses and treats a wide range of acute and chronic illnesses, injuries, and infections.

    Develops and implements individualized treatment plans, prescribing appropriate medications, therapies, and interventions.

    聽聽聽聽聽聽 Orders and interprets diagnostic tests, such as pharmaceuticals, laboratory work, radiological examinations, and screenings.

    聽聽聽聽聽聽 Provides vaccinations, performs health screenings, and promotes preventive care measures within the correctional population.

    聽聽聽聽聽聽 Performs basic technical skills such as suturing, splinting and injections.

  • Chronic Disease Management:

  • 聽 聽 聽 聽Monitors and manages chronic diseases prevalent among incarcerated individuals, such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, HIV/AIDS, and Hepatitis C.

    聽聽聽聽聽聽 Ensures proper medication management, including prescribing, adjusting dosages, and monitoring treatment effectiveness.

    聽聽聽聽聽聽 Educates patients on disease management strategies, lifestyle modifications, and medication adherence.

    聽聽聽聽聽聽 Collaborates with specialty care providers for consultations and referrals, when necessary.

    Emergency Medical Services:

    聽聽聽聽聽聽 Responds to medical emergencies within the correctional facility, providing immediate assessment, stabilization, and necessary interventions.

    聽聽聽聽聽聽 Coordinates with emergency medical services or arranges for transfers to external medical facilities, when required.

  • 聽 聽聽Participates in emergency preparedness planning and training exercises to ensure efficient emergency response within the correctional setting

Coll Collaboration and Coordination:

  • 聽 聽 聽 Works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists, dentists, social workers, and other correctional staff, to ensure coordinated and integrated healthcare delivery.
  • 聽 聽聽Communicates effectively with healthcare team members, providing necessary information, consultations, and referrals.
  • 聽 聽 聽聽Participates in case conferences, team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance the overall healthcare delivery system.

Documentation and Compliance:

  • 聽 聽 聽 聽Maintains accurate and up-to-date medical records, including patient histories, diagnoses, treatments, and medications administered.
  • 聽 聽 聽 聽Adheres to patient confidentiality regulations and ensures the security and privacy of medical records.
  • 聽 聽 聽 聽Complies with all relevant laws, regulations, and policies governing correctional healthcare and professional ethical standards.

聽 聽 聽 聽Professional Development:

  • 聽 聽 聽 聽Stays updated with the latest advancements in primary care, correctional medicine, and relevant healthcare regulations.
  • 聽 聽 聽聽Engages in continuous professional development activities.
  • 聽 聽 聽 聽Provides training and education to correctional staff on primary healthcare topics, as needed.

Qualifications:

    • Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
    • Current and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the state/jurisdiction where the correctional facility is located.
    • Experience in providing primary care or relevant experience in correctional or underserved populations is preferred.
    • Strong assessment and diagnostic skills, with the ability to manage a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions.
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
    • Ability to work effectively in a challenging and dynamic environment.
