Position Overview:

The Social Media Specialist will drive organic growth, audience engagement, and brand loyalty across our core digital channels. In this role, you will be the day-to-day voice of our brands. You will turn marketing strategies into creative, high-performing content that connects with our community. This position sits within the marketing department and acts as a bridge between strategy and creative execution. The ideal candidate lives and breathes social media trends, understands audience behavior, and knows how to analyze performance metrics to continuously optimize content. This role will grow brand awareness, strengthen community engagement, support marketing campaigns, and use performance insights to improve results across platforms.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Create, schedule, and publish original, authentic content across social platforms, including LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and other emerging channels.
  • Maintain a consistent brand voice while tailoring copy, visuals, and formats for each platform.
  • Write engaging copy, shooting or editing short-form videos, designing basic graphics.
  • Create and manage social media calendars that align with campaigns, events, product launches, and broader marketing priorities. This includes mapping out content calendars weeks or months in advance.
  • Monitor audience conversations, platform updates, algorithm changes, emerging content formats, viral trends, and competitive activity to drive timely engagement and relevant content strategies.
  • Track social media performance using analytics tools and prepare regular reports with insights, trends, and recommendations.
  • Analyze organic and paid social performance, prepare reports, and recommend optimizations to improve engagement, audience growth, lead generation, and brand visibility.
  • Collaborate with marketing, creative, sales, communications, and customer-facing teams to support integrated campaigns.
  • Assist with tracking influencer activations, securing creator deliverables, and managing user-generated content workflows.
  • Track emerging internet culture, viral audio trends, and changing platform algorithms to keep content highly relevant.
  • Help protect brand reputation by following social media guidelines, escalation processes, and approval workflows.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Skills:

  • Experience: 1–3 years of hands-on, dedicated social media management experience, including creating, publishing, and optimizing content for B2C and/or B2B brands within an agency, in-house marketing team, or professional freelance portfolio.
  • Proficiency with Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, CapCut, or similar design and video editing tools.
  • Familiarity with collaborative Content Management Systems such as Canto and digital layout tools like Figma is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of design principles: typography, color theory, layout, composition, visual hierarchy, production standards, and aligning designs with brand strategy.
  • Knowledge of branding, visual design principles, accessibility standards, and social platform content specifications.
  • Creative thinker with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop unique, authentic, and engaging content concepts.
  • Comfort using AI-assisted tools responsibly for brainstorming, drafting, editing, and workflow efficiency.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including copywriting, editing, proofreading, presentation, and stakeholder collaboration.
  • Understanding of accessibility best practices and inclusive design principles.
  • Experience with motion graphics, short-form video editing, animation, photography, or multimedia production.
  • Project management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.

Requirements:

  • Hands on, proven experience in content creation with a strong and diverse portfolio demonstrating and showcasing clean typography, strong layout skills, creative, innovative, and real-world examples across both print and digital platforms.
  • On-Site role requiring presence at Corporate HQ (Leawood, Kansas).
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time in support of strategic business initiatives, including overnight and multi-day travel for industry conferences, licensee and partner engagement, content creation, product launches, influencer activations, and key corporate events.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in person, by phone, and through digital collaboration tools.
  • Ability to occasionally lift or move marketing materials, printed collateral, event supplies, or equipment up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to review visual details on screens and printed proofs with close attention to accuracy.
