Electrical Superintendent IIĀ

SUMMARYĀ Ā 

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Electrical Superintendent who can interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, enthusiastic and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. As an Electrical Superintendent, you will be responsible for providing coordination, planning, and supervision to assistant superintendents, contractors, and craft activities in a particular area of discipline.Ā

RESPONSIBILITIESĀ 

  • Coordinate work projects within the electrical scope of the building siteĀ 

  • Ensure high-quality installation of electrical portions of the project, including underground cabling, overhead lines, and substation constructionĀ 

  • Provide drawing, constructability, submittal reviews, and feedback with the engineering team, verifying quality of materials, equipment, and workmanshipĀ 

  • Partner with the Sr. Superintendent in formwork selection, equipment sizing, site utilization plan, and development of project schedules and updates, including three-week look-aheadĀ 

  • Ensure work teams have needed resources and support, and supervise quality control of work team, including self-performed and subcontracted workĀ 

  • Manage the interface with personnel concerned with the connection of the project power grid to the existing distribution systemĀ 

  • Supervise the installation, splicing, and termination of fiber optic cablesĀ 

  • Attend and participate in project meetings, providing liaison between field engineers and contractors or craft workers to ensure electrical components comply with drawings and specificationsĀ 

  • Ensure correct implementation of the Mortenson Project Quality Plan (PQP) and assist in development and updating of project control logs and QC documentation; assist with development of electrical Integrated Work Instructions (IWIs)Ā 

  • Oversee electrical subcontractors, reviewing/monitoring their procurement of electrical resources, methods, staffing, look-ahead schedules, and coordination with other site activitiesĀ 

  • Work with engineering staff to ensure plans, specifications, submittals, and RFIs are transmitted to subcontractors accurately and timelyĀ 

  • Monitor safety, quality, and efficiency of subcontracted work on every projectĀ 

  • Coach, mentor, and train field personnel, forepersons, and assistant superintendents, ensuring crews have resources and supportĀ 

  • Ensure implementation, practice, and enforcement of the Mortenson Zero Injury ProgramĀ 

  • Produce various reports, including Sequence of Operation instructions for equipment use and energization of circuits, and written Methods of Operation (MOPs)Ā 

  • Establish and nurture a teamwork environment, providing work direction and performance evaluationsĀ 

  • Identify hiring needs and participate in hiring, discipline, and dismissal decisions as neededĀ 

  • Develop leadership potential through appropriate task assignments and career growth opportunitiesĀ 

  • Manage open shop and union issuesĀ 

  • Maintain relationships with all visitors to the site, including customers, architects, union representatives, subcontractors, etc.Ā 

  • Manage site work and logistics efficiently, providing suggestions for improvementĀ 

  • Perform other duties as assignedĀ

QUALIFICATIONSĀ 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalentĀ Ā 

  • Minimum 12 years’ experience working with high and medium voltage equipment and cable, installation of transmission/collection lines, and substation construction.Ā 

  • Minimum 15 years supervisory experienceĀ 

  • Working knowledge of latest NESC, NEC, IEEE, NEMA, and OSHA codes and standards and industry safety requirements and methodsĀ 

  • Ability to gain and maintain basic understanding of Wind Turbine construction to ensure proper code requirements and installation methodsĀ 

  • Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skillsĀ 

  • Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple project tasksĀ 

  • Possess basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practicesĀ 

  • Microsoft Office, project, and pertinent web application skills at an intermediate levelĀ 

  • Proven positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skillsĀ 

  • Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policiesĀ 

  • Proficiency in the installation, testing, acceptance, maintenance, and repair of high and medium voltage cablesĀ 

  • Knowledgeable about current injection, Hi-pot, capacitance discharge, contact resistance, Megger, TTR, Doble, and other methods of cable and equipment testingĀ 

  • Possess working knowledge of electrical drawings, sketches, and prints, underground duct banks, trenching, manholes and vaults for distribution and collection systems, underground and pad mount transformer usage, SCADA systems used in the power industry, transmission line construction, testing and commissioning, and substation construction, testing and commissioningĀ 

  • Current driver’s licenseĀ 

  • Ability to travelĀ

**The base pay range for this role is $125,600 - $188,400. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%).Ā

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.Ā  This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.Ā
