Position Summary

The Scale Attendant is responsible for accurately weighing incoming and outgoing vehicles and materials, recording transaction data, and ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable regulations. This role serves as a key point of contact for drivers, customers, and vendors at the scale house.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate truck/vehicle scale equipment to weigh incoming and outgoing loads
  • Accurately record gross, tare, and net weights for each transaction
  • Generate and issue weight tickets/receipts to drivers
  • Verify material type, load documentation, and customer/vendor information against system records
  • Enter transaction data into scale software or ERP system
  • Inspect incoming loads for contamination, prohibited materials, or discrepancies and flag issues per company procedure
  • Maintain accurate daily logs and reconcile scale records with accounting/inventory
  • Communicate with drivers regarding yard procedures, safety rules, and traffic flow
  • Perform routine visual checks of scale equipment and report malfunctions
  • Maintain a clean, organized scale house/office area
  • Follow all safety protocols, including PPE requirements and traffic safety around heavy equipment
  • Assist with month-end reporting or audits as needed

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Prior scale house, dispatch, logistics, or customer service experience preferred
  • Basic computer proficiency (data entry, scale software, Microsoft Office/Excel)
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in recordkeeping
  • Good communication skills, comfortable interacting with drivers and vendors
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, outdoor-adjacent industrial environment

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, sit, and move around the scale house for extended periods
  • Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions, dust, noise, and heavy equipment traffic
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally

Work Environment

  • Scale house/booth setting with regular exposure to yard/industrial operations
  • May require early morning, evening, or weekend shifts depending on operational hours
