Job Description

We are hiring for an experienced professional to join our team as a Staff Engineer and contribute to our Land Development projects on a full-time, direct basis at our office in Leesburg, VA.  This person will have the opportunity to work on a variety of private and public site development projects across various markets!

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the development of Land Development Plans; this includes the preparation of engineering design drawings, technical specifications, and engineering reports (from schematic design through construction).
  • Coordinate permits through regulatory agencies for large-scale, complex projects which may involve phasing multiple disciplines, and developing alternatives for team review for implementation.
  • Perform zoning interpretation and prepare feasibility studies, drawings, specifications, and reports for multi-modal access to the site.
  • Prepare site grading plans for proposed activities to include pedestrian access parking, loading, and use buffers to connect to existing infrastructure adjacent to the site, or study area and identify limits of disturbance.
  • Contribute to stormwater management design: Hydrologic and Hydraulic (H&H)   modeling, Erosion and Sediment Control (E&SC) planning, etc.
  • Utilize advanced understanding of ordinances / regulations (local, state, & federal) as well as the relevant permitting process(es) to ensure compliance.
  • Engage with regulatory agencies.
  • Support initial aspects of project efforts and interface with clients with other Pennoni staff, including field visits, status meetings, and participating/ developing technical solutions and executing  project tasks.
  • Nurture existing client relationships as well as developing new clients.
  • Mentor junior-level staff.
  • Provide quality control of staff design & reports.
  • Prepare proposals and track project budgets for profitability.
  • Outreach for networking events for professional advancement.
  • Participate with team in value engineering of plans.
  • Additional duties may be assigned, as needed.

 

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering-oriented discipline (preferably Civil Engineering).
  • 4+ years of professional experience working in Engineering, preferably with land development projects.

 Please note that we are willing to consider a higher-level position for a candidate that qualifies with additional experience accordingly.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • E.I.T. certification is required.
  • P.E. license in VA is preferred.
  • Experience working on land development and infrastructure improvement projects.
  • Proficiency with engineering design software, including AutoCAD Civil 3D and HydroCAD.
  • Experience with stormwater management (SWM) design calculations, especially while utilizing H&H modeling tools.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), MS Project, and Bluebeam.Proven ability to look at the “Big Picture” as well the project goals in order to coordinate various design disciplines accordingly.
  • Proven ability to work in an energetic & challenging team environment as a collaborative Team Player, especially while maintaining the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Proven ability to demonstrate problem-solving skills, especially when working on a variety of projects while providing solutions to difficult issues.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written).
