Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Emergency Department Technician, you will perform functions delegated by the RN, providing essential support in meeting the physical and emotional needs of patients in the Emergency Department. Every day you will collaborate with the healthcare team, communicate effectively, and facilitate patient care, all in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act and the critical care tech job description. To be successful in this role, you will possess strong patient support skills, the ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced environment, and a commitment to communication and teamwork to meet patient needs effectively.

  • Delivers patient care as directed by the RN or physician to provide safe and effective patient care by performing technical skills and tasks within hospital and/or department guidelines.
  • Performs a variety of technical tasks competently based on unit competencies which may include but not limited to: Point of Care lab tests, Phlebotomy for laboratory specimens IV or straight draw, 12 lead EKG recording, IV insertion for adults, Assist with placing patients on monitoring devices and recording vital signs, Foley catheter insertiongender specific, Straight Catheter insertion for adults gender specific, Ortho splinting, Crutch Training, Wound care and dressing,
  • Patient transport, Ocular irrigations with Morgan lens, Sets up for and Assists providers with sterile procedures such as suturing or central line placement.
  • Communicates with RN and physician regarding patient/family observations in an ongoing fashion to assist in the treatment of patients.
  • Documents tasks and observations on the patient record according to medical and legal standards.
  • Communicates patient information by informing primary nurses of any abnormal or untoward finding during assigned duties.

Job Requirements

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Graduate of statecertified EMTB program with IV certification or state paramedic certification
  • IV Therapy Certification (IV cert not required for UT)
  • BLS through the American Heart Association
  • EMT license through state of employment

Preferred

  • One (1) year of healthcare experience (prehospital or ED or patient care)
  • EKG Basic Certification
  • Paramedic license through state of employment
