Sales & Use TaxÂ
Our innovative and growing company is searching for experienced candidates for the position of sales & use tax. Duties & Responsibilities
- Review monthly sales tax returns prepared and filed by Sovos
- Assist with state and local governmental sales/use tax audits, including the gathering of information requested by government tax auditors, and where appropriate assist in the defense of tax positions taken by the Company
- Analyze and reconcile sales and Use tax accounts on a monthly basis and prepare a monthly general ledger sales tax entry
- Develop audit-ready files to support the current year returns
- Assist in a variety of special projects as needed
- Review monthly billing from Sovos for accuracy
- Review funding report from Sovos to verify amounts paid to taxing jurisdictions
- Respond to customer questions and concerns regarding sales tax and exemption certificates
- Keep current on tax laws/regulations for applicable states
- Keep abreast of changes in industry regulations
- Be responsible for the initial review of all sales tax exemption certificates
- Be the initial internal interface on day-to-day transaction tax issues
- Minimize sales & use tax deficiencies and maximize refund opportunities
- Identify tax savings ideas and be able to work in a team environment to help implement solutions
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field required
- 1-3 years of accounting experience required, sales and use tax experience preferred
- Proficient knowledge with Sovos and Vertex tax software is a plus
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel
- 1+ years of corporate sales and use tax experience, including preparation of monthly sales and use tax returns for state and local jurisdictions
- Experience in handling sales and use tax audits
- Oracle ERP software experience is a plus
- Managing and improving the sales tax reporting process and other process improvements
- Licenses or certifications such as CPA, CMI, SAP are beneficial, but not required
- Basic familiarity with federal and state tax laws/regulations
- Understanding of appropriate application of tax laws, rules, and standards to ensure effective and efficient sales & use tax compliance
- Proficiency in using tax research tools, court decisions, and other relevant sources of information utilized in sales & use tax administration and compliance
- Basic understanding of auditing and accounting principles
