Job Summary:

Responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating responsiveness of the Workplace Violence Prevention Program and daily management of staff activities throughout the health system and facilities.

As a Supervisor at Owensboro Health, you provide frontline leadership and direct support to team members during daily operations. You champion our Safety Culture and foster continuous improvement. You ensure safe, efficient, and compassionate care delivery by monitoring performance, reinforcing expectations, and promoting a just culture. Job Responsibilities:

  • Serves on the Workplace Violence Prevention Team (WVPT) and various committees, tasks forces related to workplace violence prevention, personal safety and threat management.

  • Collaborates with the managers of Safety and Security and other stakeholders when required for the development of policies and procedures governing Owensboro Health Inc's Workplace Violence Prevention Program

  • Plans, coordinates, and participates in annual workplace violence risk assessments and analysis throughout the health system and it's facilities.

  • Ensure the hospitals take actions to mitigate or resolve the workplace violence safety and security risks based upon findings from the analysis.

  • Utilizes reports, investigations, pro-active risk assessments and data analysis to identify risk areas, mitigation strategies and recommendations regarding best practices to reduce workplace violence.

  • Partners with Human Resources and the hospital's Education Departments to develop and provide organizational wide training and education on workplace violence, reporting processes, and program resources

  • Assists security/MOAB instructors with training, education, and awareness on threat assessment, de-escalation, personal safety, and behavioral response training with focus on incident prevention

  • Participates in investigations, root cause analyses, violence related sentinel events, use of force, and self-defense reviews

  • Maintains knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, best practices and investigate methods regarding workplace violence prevention and ensures that all regulatory/Joint Commission guidelines for workplace violence prevention are communicated and achieved.

  • Develops and monitors a monthly, quarterly, and annual report on the workplace violence prevention program and presents the annual report and program critiques to the Environment of Care Committee and as requested to other groups

  • Provides leadership, orientation, training and continuing education, coaching, mentoring, performance evaluations and corrective actions to staff.

  • Manages daily staffing assignments and levels for security officers and assigned staff.

  • Responsible for identifying and mitigating security vulnerabilities and management of camera monitoring and access control systems at all organization facilities.

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Performance Management - Supervises the daily activities of technical, operations, business support or team members and is accountable for performance.

  • Resource Management - Sets priorities for the team to ensure task completion; coordinates worked activities to optimize productivity.

  • Problem solving – identifies and solves problems guided by policies and procedures; delivers guidance with oversight from manager.

  • Delegation - Effectively assigning tasks and responsibilities to team members based on their strengths.   May perform duties of subordinates but at an advanced level and typically less than 80% of their time. 

  • Leadership Ability – Will approve timecards, participate in hiring, training new hires, provide input into corrective action & development plans, assist with process improvement conduct performance reviews, assist with budgeting and operations, etc.

  • Conflict Resolution - Identifies and addresses conflicts within the team, facilitating constructive dialogue, and finding solutions to disagreements. 

  • Change Management - Leads and adapts to organizational changes, communicating effectively during transitions, and engages the team in the process.

  • Leadership Development – Actively engages in the Leadership Development Program by enrolling in the program within the first 6 months of employment and completing the program within the first 2 years of employment.  

  • Workforce Safety Statement - Prioritizes the physical and psychological safety of the workforce as a foundational element of high-reliability care. Ensure goals are established with effective monitoring and reporting to improve workforce safety and wellbeing. Promotes safe staffing, supports resilience, and ensures that every team member has the tools, training, and environment needed to perform at their best.

Position Requirements:

Work Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years' relevant experience as determined by the organization

 Education

  • Associate's degree or higher in Social Work required upon hire OR

  • Associate's degree or higher in related field required upon hire                                                  

Additional Education Information

  • A combination of education, training and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

Licensure/Certification/Registration

  • Driver - Valid driver's license and 21 years of age required upon hire AND

  • AVADE Workplace Violence Prevention Instructor required within 180 days of employment in this position AND

  • AVADE Workplace Violence Prevention Level III Provider required within 180 days of employment in this position
