EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS NECESSARY: The award-winning WWAY News team is looking for an innovative, passionate newsroom leader to help shape the future of local journalism on the North Carolina coast.

WWAY, the ABC, CBS and CW affiliate serving beautiful southeastern North Carolina, is seeking a News Director to lead our multi-platform newsroom. The News Director is responsible for the editorial vision, daily operations, and long-term growth of the news department, fostering a culture of strong journalism, collaboration, innovation, and accountability.

Responsibilities include:

路 Provide strategic leadership for all newsroom operations across broadcast, digital, streaming, and social media platforms

路 Lead, mentor, coach, and develop reporters, producers, anchors

路 Establish and maintain high standards for journalistic integrity, storytelling, writing, and ethical decision-making

路 Oversee daily editorial planning, story selection, breaking news coverage, investigative reporting, and special event coverage

路 Drive digital-first content strategies that grow audiences across web, mobile, streaming, and social media platforms

路 Recruit, hire, train, and retain top newsroom talent while fostering a positive, collaborative workplace culture

路 Manage newsroom budgets, staffing, scheduling, and performance evaluations

路 Collaborate with station leadership, sales, marketing, and engineering to maximize station initiatives and community engagement

路 Develop long-term newsroom goals focused on audience growth, innovation, and content excellence

Qualifications:

路 Bachelor's degree in Journalism or Communications

路 Five or more years of newsroom leadership experience, with previous management experience strongly preferred

路 Strong leadership, coaching, communication, and organizational skills

路 Proven ability to lead teams through breaking news and severe weather coverage

路 Experience with digital audience development and multi-platform content strategies

路 Knowledge of ENPS and Edius is preferred

路 Strong understanding of FCC regulations, journalistic ethics, and newsroom best practices

路 Valid driver's license and good driving record required
