JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The Department of Biology, in the Eberly College of Science, is seeking a diverse group of life science undergraduates at the University Park campus to serve as New Student Orientation (NSO) Advising Assistants during summer 2026.

Primary responsibilities will include assisting incoming first-year students with navigating the LionPath/Starfish/Canvas platforms, helping students enroll in summer and fall courses, and greeting and checking in students when they enter the Zoom room for the Eberly College of Science (ECoS) Academic Consultation. NSO Advising Assistants will gain leadership, collaboration, and communication skills. 

NSO Advising Assistants must be available for training (May 19, 1:00 – 4:00 pm) and all/most NSO programs (May 20 – July 7 and July 15 – August 28, 2026). NSO Advising Assistants will be scheduled to work on certain days, Monday through Friday, during the hours of about 10:45 am - 2:00 pm, for a total of about 10 - 15 hours per week. Applicants should be at least a 2nd semester Penn State student in good academic standing. Preference will be given to those pursuing a major in the Eberly College of Science (Biology majors preferred but not required). Interested applicants should submit a cover letter and current resume.
