The role

The Packaging Mechanic sets up our production equipment and keeps it running. Setup is the core of the job: every product change means new tooling, new settings, new machine parameters entered at the control panel, and a line that has to run correctly on the first batch rather than the third. When a line is down, everything behind it stops — so the second half of the job is making sure it does not go down in the first place.

What you would do

  • Set up and change over filling, sealing, labeling, and coding equipment for each product and package size
  • Enter and verify machine parameters through touchscreen HMI control panels — recipes, fill volumes, speeds, temperatures, timing
  • Interpret HMI fault codes and alarms and clear them at the source
  • Install, adjust, and align change parts and tooling
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, pneumatic, and basic electrical faults
  • Perform preventive maintenance on schedule and document it legibly
  • Verify fill weights and settings against specification during setup and startup
  • Work with Production and Quality to resolve line issues without compromising product quality
  • Recommend and carry out improvements that reduce changeover time and downtime
Equipment you would work on

Tube fillers, piston fillers, wrap labelers, and inkjet coding systems, plus supporting conveyors, compressors, and utilities. Most of this equipment is operated through a touchscreen control panel, and being comfortable navigating those screens is as important here as being comfortable with a wrench.

You do not need to have run these specific machines. You need to be the kind of person who can take one apart, understand why it works, and put it back together correctly.

What matters most here

Attention to detail is not optional. A fill volume set slightly wrong runs thousands of units before anyone notices. Setup accuracy is the whole job.

Reliability. A mechanic who shows up is worth more than a brilliant one who does not. Lines run on a schedule and changeovers are planned around you.

Engagement. We want a mechanic who walks the line when it is running well, not only when it has stopped — who hears the bearing going out three weeks before it fails.

Teamwork. You will set up equipment that operators have to run all day. The mechanics who do this best ask the operators what is giving them trouble and listen to the answer.

What we require

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Demonstrated mechanical ability — industrial, manufacturing, military, agricultural, or serious hobbyist
  • Comfort with touchscreen HMI control panels, or clear aptitude for learning them
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and equipment manuals
  • Solid basic math, including decimals, fractions, and unit conversions
  • Ability to weigh and measure accurately when verifying setup
  • Legible handwriting for maintenance and setup records
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, climb, and work in confined positions
Tools are provided. You do not need to bring your own.

What we do not require

Packaging machinery experience specifically. We will train you on our equipment and on the GMP requirements that govern how setups, repairs, and changes are documented. Industrial maintenance, food or beverage packaging, agricultural equipment, HVAC, millwright, and military maintenance backgrounds all transfer well.

How to apply

Apply through the link on this posting and upload your resume. The application includes a few short questions — we read every one, and a thoughtful answer carries more weight with us than a polished resume.

Candidates selected for interview will complete a short hands-on exercise at our Monroe facility covering mechanical reasoning, measurement, and entering settings on an equipment control panel. It takes about forty-five minutes and no preparation is needed.
