The After-School Academy program is comprised of students grades K-5 who receive daily instruction in core subject areas and provides enrichment activities. The Program Assistant provides support to the classroom teacher in implementation of the daily lesson plans and group activities. The person in the role must embody Peter Paul’s values and share a passion for the mission by overseeing a high quality, safe experience for all students. Primary ResponsibilitiesÂ
• Support the program with implementation of daily lesson plans and group activitiesÂ
• Assist in developing critical thinking, reasoning, writing and grammar skills in support of overall classroom cultureÂ
• Encourage group thinking, curiosity and discoveryÂ
• Assist in the implementation of Peter Paul's daily expectations and behavior systemÂ
• Participate in weekly staff meetings and serve on planning and special events committeesÂ
• Commitment to total classroom engagementÂ
• Required to wear face mask daily and practice physical distancing when possibleÂ
• Perform additional duties as assignedÂ
QualificationsÂ
• High School Diploma or equivalent; currently enrolled in college coursesÂ
• Experience working with school age studentsÂ
• Strong classroom management and organization skillsÂ
• Experience and/or desire to work with high-potential studentsÂ
• Excellent oral communication skillsÂ
• Knowledge of current educational researchÂ
• Understanding of and familiarity working in an urban settingÂ
• COVID-19 Vaccine is required (medical or religious exemptions may be accepted but require weekly COVID-19 testing)Â
Additional QualificationsÂ
• Bachelor's Degree (preferred)Â
• Experience working in the Virginia Standards of LearningÂ
• Experience driving a passenger van/bus; CDL a plusÂ
Compensation and BenefitsÂ
This is a part-time, hourly position that is expected to work Monday-Friday during program hours ranging from 2:00 pm -6:30 pm (up to 20 hours per week) and will receive additional hours for team meetings and educational training.
