Job Description Summary:
Aviagen Turkeys, Inc. is currently seeking an experienced CDL Class B Driver to join our Transportation team.This position is primarily responsible for safely transporting eggs from our farms to hatcheries and other company locations. This is a mostly local driving position, with limited out-of-state travel.
The Driver II is responsible for operating a commercial motor vehicle safely and professionally while complying with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, company policies, and applicable local, state, and federal laws.
Job Description:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Safely operate a commercial motor vehicle while transporting eggs between farms, hatcheries, and other company locations
- Comply with all Department of Transportation regulations and company safety policies
- Perform and document pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, including tires, oil, fuel, lights, brakes, hoses, and other equipment
- Assist with loading and unloading as needed
- Ensure loads are properly secured before movement
- Maintain required documentation, including equipment, trip, time, and load records
- Clean and wash trucks and equipment as necessary
- Report vehicle or equipment maintenance concerns promptly to the appropriate supervisor
- Follow company biosecurity and sanitation requirements when traveling between farms and hatcheries
- Perform other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications
- Minimum 21 years of age
- Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required
- Satisfactory driving record
- Previous commercial driving experience preferred
- Knowledge of DOT regulations and applicable state and federal motor vehicle laws
- Ability to safely operate a commercial vehicle in rural and farm environments
- Ability to read, understand, and complete required documentation
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Dependable, safety-conscious, and professional
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Basic math skills
Physical and Work Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to sit and drive for extended periods and regularly climb in and out of the truck cab
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
- Ability to work around agricultural environments, including animal-related odors
- Ability to work around moving equipment and in environments where noise levels may exceed 85 decibels
- Ability to work varying schedules, including early mornings, nights, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts as business needs require
