Title: Shipping Clerk

Reports to: Shipping Manager

Hours: 10pm-6am Sunday night-Thursday night

 

Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Shipping Clerk to join our manufacturing team specializing in corrugated paper products. This role ensures timely and accurate shipment of products, supports inventory management, and maintains smooth shipping operations in a fast-paced environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Order Fulfillment:
    • Pick, pack, and prepare orders for shipment, ensuring accuracy and compliance with customer requirements.
    • Verify product quantities, descriptions, and shipping labels match customer orders.
    • Operate manual pallet jack to move products to the shipping area when necessary
  2. Shipping Coordination:
    • Schedule carrier pickups and manage shipping documentation, including bills of lading and packing slips.
    • Utilize shipping software to generate labels and track shipments.
    • Communicate with carriers to resolve issues related to delays or damaged shipments.
  3. Inventory Management:
    • Maintain accurate inventory records by conducting routine stock checks and updating inventory systems.
    • Report discrepancies or shortages to the Shipping Manager.
  4. Safety and Compliance:
    • Follow all safety protocols, including the proper handling of corrugated materials and operation of equipment.
    • Ensure shipments comply with company standards and regulatory requirements.
  5. Collaboration:
    • Work closely with the production and quality control teams to meet shipping deadlines.
    • Support other departments as needed to optimize workflow and improve customer satisfaction.
    • Assist with production scheduling

Qualifications:

  • Experience:
    • Previous experience in shipping, logistics, warehouse operations (preferably in a manufacturing environment) and scheduling
    • Familiarity with handling corrugated paper products is a plus.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in shipping software (e.g., FedEx, UPS, or freight systems).
    • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and ERP systems.
    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and stand for extended periods.
    • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures and noise levels.
  • Education/Experience

    • High school diploma or GED
    • Strong working knowledge of standard shipping procedures, freight documentation (BOLs, etc.), and inventory control principles.
    • Proficiency with computers and experience utilizing a WMS (Warehouse Management System) and/or basic ERP system for processing orders and inventory.
    • Exceptional attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently.

Language Skills

  • Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Mathematical Skills

  • Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.
  • Able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume and rate.
  • Able to apply concepts of high school math.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Technical Skills: The individual must have a working knowledge of the following:

  • Equipment design and capabilities that can be translated into efficient operation. This also supports the supervisor's role of teacher and trainer for his/her personnel.
  • Cost issues in order to make daily decisions that will reduce overall costs and will help the supervisor find areas that require improvement.
  • Quality and Food Safety standards.
