Job Summary

The RN - Cath Lab provides skilled nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures. Responsibilities include patient assessment, procedure preparation, intra-procedure support including circulating and scrubbing roles, post-procedure monitoring, and collaboration with the interventional team. This position requires critical thinking, technical proficiency, and a strong commitment to patient safety and quality outcomes.

Essential Functions

  • Prepares procedure suite and gathers necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Conducts pre- and intra-procedure patient assessments and documents findings.
  • Assists with patient transport, positioning, prepping, and draping.
  • Circulates, scrubs, and monitors patients during diagnostic and interventional cardiology procedures.
  • Administers medications and oxygen under direct supervision of a physician.
  • Operates and maintains monitoring and procedural equipment.
  • Participates in patient recovery and post-procedure handoffs.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, and care teams.
  • Supervises and supports other Cath Lab personnel as needed.
  • Assists with conscious sedation and documentation per hospital policy.
  • Participates in emergency response procedures, including defibrillation and IABP operation.
  • Maintains cleanliness and readiness of Cath Lab.
  • Participates in on-call rotation and complies with timely response expectations.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Proficient in EKG rhythm interpretation and invasive monitoring.
  • Ability to scrub, circulate, and monitor in a procedural setting.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment, adaptability, and effective problem-solving.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and documentation skills.
  • Knowledge of sterile technique, patient safety protocols, and procedural sedation.
  • Familiarity with cardiac equipment including injectors, monitors, and hemodynamic systems.
  • Capable of lifting 50-150 lbs with or without assistance; must use proper body mechanics.
  • Physically able to stand for long periods and perform frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.


Education

  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program (diploma, ADN, or BSN).

Licenses/Certifications

  • Current Registered Nurse license in good standing.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required within time frame required by facility policy.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required within time frame required by facility policy.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within time frame required by facility policy (if applicable).
  • Moderate/Conscious Sedation competency as required by facility policy.

Experience

  • Minimum of two years clinical nursing experience
  • One year of Cath Lab or cardiac experience preferred.
