The Service Deli Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Service Deli Department, including customer service, food preparation, merchandising, sales growth, labor management, food safety compliance, and team leadership. This role ensures the department operates efficiently, delivers high-quality products, maintains excellent presentation standards, and provides an exceptional shopping experience for customers.
Key Responsibilities Customer Service & Sales- Promote a customer-first culture by delivering exceptional service and promptly resolving customer concerns.
- Build customer loyalty through product knowledge, quality offerings, and outstanding service.
- Drive department sales through effective merchandising, promotions, sampling programs, and seasonal displays.
- Ensure product availability and maintain attractive, fully stocked service cases and displays.
- Monitor department performance and implement strategies to achieve sales and profitability goals.
- Oversee daily deli operations, including production, service counters, grab-and-go offerings, and catering programs where applicable.
- Ensure all food products are prepared, packaged, displayed, and stored according to company standards.
- Maintain proper inventory levels through effective ordering, receiving, and inventory management practices.
- Monitor product quality, freshness, rotation, and code date compliance.
- Ensure accurate pricing, signage, and execution of promotional programs.
- Coordinate production schedules to meet customer demand while minimizing waste.
- Recruit, train, coach, and develop department associates.
- Create work schedules that balance operational needs and labor budgets.
- Provide ongoing performance feedback and recognition to team members.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and accountable work environment.
- Ensure associates are properly trained in food safety, sanitation, and customer service standards.
- Manage department expenses, including labor, shrink, supplies, and product costs.
- Review sales, margin, and performance reports to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Implement strategies to maximize profitability while maintaining product quality and customer satisfaction.
- Support inventory counts and ensure accurate recordkeeping.
- Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, health, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation throughout all work, preparation, storage, and customer service areas.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, labeling, and temperature control of all products.
- Conduct routine inspections to identify and correct safety concerns.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and operational standards.
- Promote a safe working environment for associates and customers.
- Ensure proper operation and maintenance of department equipment.
- Follow accident prevention and incident reporting procedures.
- Support company asset protection and shrink reduction initiatives.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous deli, food service, or retail management experience required.
- Knowledge of food preparation, food safety, and sanitation practices.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to analyze business results and make sound operational decisions.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive movements for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry products weighing up to 50 pounds regularly and more with assistance when necessary.
- Ability to work in refrigerated environments and around food preparation equipment.
- Ability to safely operate slicers, ovens, fryers, and other department equipment.
