What We Need
Facilities is seeking a skilled and collaborative Facilities Maintenance Manager to lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for maintaining campus buildings, systems, and infrastructure.
This role blends hands-on technical expertise with strategic leadership, offering a key opportunity to develop and strengthen SPU’s maintenance workforce through training, mentorship, and continuous improvement. The Facilities Maintenance Manager oversees both in-house and contracted maintenance services, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with campus needs.
This is a full-time, in-person position based on SPU’s main campus. Remote or hybrid work is not available.
What You’ll Do
Leadership & Team Management
Supervise and support a team of approximately 10 maintenance staff across multiple trades
Provide coaching, training, and workforce development to support skill growth, professional advancement, and strong team morale
Conduct annual performance evaluations and ongoing skills assessments; develop and implement improvement strategies as needed
Collaborate with the Facilities operations team to prioritize, assign, and review work orders
Leverage technology, data, and digital tools to streamline workflows and improve team efficiency
Maintenance Operations & Preventive Maintenance
Oversee maintenance operations for campus buildings, systems, and equipment, including both in-house and contracted work
Direct preventive maintenance programs and repair activities to ensure reliability and longevity of campus assets
Ensure appropriate tools, materials, and methods are used for efficient, high-quality work
Provide field oversight and, during peak demand or emergencies, perform hands-on technical work as needed
Manage contracted maintenance services (e.g., elevators, generators) from bid through completion
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance maintenance programs and operational efficiency
Compliance & Safety
Ensure compliance with safety procedures, regulatory requirements, and departmental protocols
Coordinate safety and regulatory training (e.g., accident prevention) and maintain training records
Promote a culture of safety across all maintenance operations
Projects, Planning & Continuous Improvement
Support capital projects by reviewing plans and specifications and providing technical input during planning phases
Participate in Facility Condition Assessments that inform capital planning and prioritization
Oversee small capital projects and retrofits as capacity allows
Essential Staff & Emergency Response
Participate in a rotating on-call schedule (approximately seven weeks per year), including evenings and weekends
Respond to campus needs within two hours during on-call periods
Serve as on-call supervisor and provide guidance to on-call maintenance staff during off-hours
Serve as essential staff during inclement weather or emergency closures
May serve as a supervisor’s designee in emergency response situations
What You Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Engineering, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and hands-on experience in facilities management, building systems, engineering, or skilled trades
Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in facilities maintenance or construction, including at least three years in a supervisory or lead role
Valid Washington State driver’s license (with good driving record) at time of hire
Ability to obtain forklift certification within three months of hire (training provided)
Knowledge of building systems, materials, and maintenance practices
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documents
Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to provide clear direction to staff
Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively in a dynamic environment
Comfort using technology, data, and maintenance management systems to support operations (Microsoft Office products, mobile devices)
Ability to perform physical tasks associated with maintenance work, including climbing ladders, working at heights, and lifting up to 20 pounds
Ability to work in mechanical spaces, on roofs, and during off-hours as needed
Role includes respirator use; successful medical evaluation and annual fit-testing are required
Ability to perform mold remediation (training provided)

Experience using maintenance management systems (e.g., TMA, SchoolDude, FMX, Maximo) to manage work orders, preventive maintenance, and asset tracking
Demonstrated ability to leverage data and digital tools to improve scheduling, resource allocation, and efficiency
Experience developing or refining digital workflows and training staff in their use
Familiarity with continuous improvement or lean maintenance principles
Experience managing contractors and optimizing in-house vs. contracted work
Professional certifications such as:
EPA Lead Renovator Certification
AHERA Building Inspector Certification
Asbestos Supervisor Certification
APPA Certified Educational Facilities Professional (CEFP)
Compensation & Benefits
Pay Range: $38.45 – $41.05 per hour, DOE
Status:Â Full-time, non-exempt
Location:Â On-site at Seattle Pacific University (no remote or hybrid options)
